remember how they STTN 7-6?

Yeah, that hasn't happened again.

Ugh.

I know they can do it because they have each done it 4 or 5 times here and there (Sophia actually did it 3 nights in a row last week), but they are still going down at 7:30 pm and getting up anywhere from 12:30-4 am to eat, and then they sleep again from 6-7:30.

Did anyone else experience this?  If so, how long was it before they were "consistently" STTN?   MH wants to start implementing the 12 Hours by 12 Weeks book ideas, but I keep hoping they'll do this on their own.

Any ideas or suggestions are welcome!

  • I don't have any suggestions, I want to know how you get them to sleep as much as you do?  Mine still get up every 3 hours but the real hard part is that they don't both sleep peacefully in between.  One of them is getting up every hour whining.  And sometimes 4  times an hour.  They only sleep peaceful from the 9 feeding to the 12 feeding and then sometimes from the 12 to the 3 but from the 3 to 6 feeding there is no sleep!  And what is the 12 hours by 12 weeks thing?

  • Nope never experienced it.  Miss K started STTN a couple months ago.  Miss A has yet to do it.  We are doing Ferber to try to get there.  :(
  • BTW I LOVE the shirts your girls are wearing!  Where'd you get them?

You know, we have been really fortunate that they have been sleeping in 5+ hour stretches since 5 weeks old.  But other than the few random STTN stints, nothing much has changed since.

Here's the book I am talking about.  I like the ideas behind it because it doesn't involve CIO.

My MIL bought them for me at a little shop by her house, but they are online too!

Oh, and ours do sleep peacefully in between.  We swaddle them tight with Miracle Blankets and they fall asleep to the seahorse thing:

  • That was my boys exactly. Somewhere around 3 months though they just did it. We read the 12 Hours Sleep book and used it...kind of. We nurse so I wasn't strict about the time they could nurse eg. 20 minutes then 17 then 14. But I would try to give them less time each night. If one would pop off I'd stop offering the boob back as long as they were sleepy. And where she says don't go backwards, I gave in a lot. If they woke up one night at 4 then the next night at 330 if it was obvious that they weren't going to go back to sleep, I would nurse them. But somewhere around 3 months they just started STTN. Until we tried to de-swaddle them last week. FAILED miserably and they're back in swaddles and back STTN.

I am so afraid of ditching the swaddle.  It'll be a huge FAIL here, too.

  • my kids are going to be swaddleld until they are 2!  we now swaddle with their arms hanging out b/c they are too big for the miracle blankets.
  • this is totally normal!  not sure why, but they often go back and forth like that.

audrey sttn all the way, and then decided to wake again for a while.  both varied wake up from 12-4:30am.  if they woke early, like 12:30, they'd usually wake again at 4:30.  if they woke at 3am, they'd sleep till up for the day.

your babes are doing great with sleep.  give a program you like a try!

also wanted to ask how your week has gone!  hope it's working out well :)

  • my ds wasn't sttn consistently until about 4 months..give them time. They still have some big growth spurts to go through and they will be waking up at night to eat : /

They will do it on their own once they have succesfully figured out soothing themselves back to sleep and their tummies aren't asking for food :-)
