Getting a "mom" haircut

My hair is pretty long. Its half-way down my back. I feel like its just been weighing me down lately. Half the time, its in a pony tail, and I feel like crap because of it. I was the type of girl that never-ever-ever had her hair in a pony tail, and now, that is the only look I rock. So I'm thinking of chopping it off, and getting a shoulder length style. I was thinking of doing lockes (sp?) for love, but I don't think my hair is long enough, and I thought I read that they don't take it if you color your hair. Anyways, who else did the "mom" cut? How did you like it?

  • My stylist thinks the mom cut is long hair with long layers. It's what I have. I thought it was interesting because I always thought it was shorter do's :)

Haha, so I already have a mom cut.

  • I will never do the mom cut.  It would look awful on me.

  • I had long hair not as long as yours. I had it cut so it kind of curled under in the middle on my neck.
I hate being hot and w/Summer right around the corner I knew I needed to get it done. Super easy to maintain.
    GL!
  • I did.  I have a chin length bob with a few layers.  Very mom.  I was pretty upset when I first got it.  I went to the hairdresser wearing a fleece and tennis shoes and carrying my big, cheap purse (the one that I don't care if a bottle leaks into).  I was horrified when I saw myself in the mirror.  I looked like I belonged in a minivan commercial.

Now, I really like it.  I find that I actually look more professional most days since my hair is done and not a frizzy mess pulled back into a ponytail.

  • I got a "mom" cut a few weeks ago. I love it! Like you my hair was half way down my back and always in a pony tail. I hated it. Now it's just below my shoulders with layers all around. I have to style it more but it doesn't take too long and it makes me feel prettier. No more pony tail - I've worn it down since the cut. It's short enough in the front that the hair doesn't get in the way when I'm with LO. I say go for it!

  • I have had a mom haircut for a while now, just because I have very fine hair. I keep it short, right under my ears with layers. It looks great on me and I can flip it under or out depending on my mood. It takes very little time to dry and style in the mornings, which I love.
  • I got a mom cut, but before I was a mom, lol.  It's really short.  I have really thin, fly-away hair, so when it was long, it was always in a ponytail.  My hair is also wavy, so now that it's short, I HAVE to straighten it before I go anywhere.  It looks awful if I don't.  It definitely isn't more convenient, but I feel better about myself when I have to actually take the time to do my hair.  It makes me feel prettier that I took time for myself.  And I love my hair short.

This scares me (no offense) and makes me scared to go to the salon!  I want to be the hot mom and not the soccer mom.

  • My hair is about to my shoulders right now, and it's very fine and wavy. I'm getting a swing bob and highlights Wednesday. I'm so excited! Not sure if that's considered a "mom" cut, but I'm going with it.
  • 3 weeks after DD was born, I went in for my "mom" cut.  My hair was past my shoulders and layered before, but I got it cut shorter than chin length.  For me, it's been the best hairstyle ever!  It turns out that my hair is curly at this lenghth, so I all I have to do is wash it and let it dry on it's own.  It's the cutest 'do I've ever had!

So don't be afraid of trying something new.  It's hair, it'll grow back if you hate it.

as for locks of love, I'd call a participating salon and see what the say.

    Good Luck!
