My DH is VERY creative. I'm lucky I can draw a straight line. I love that about him. He loves to write poems, draw (his pencil portraits are amazing), etc. In the 9 years we've been together he has had MANY ideas for projects, companies, etc. Some he has actually pursued and we've spent a little money on them but then he looses interest or it doesn't go the way he thinks it will and it goes no where. Some projects he's dropped almost as soon as he had them.
This week, he had this brilliant (in his mind brilliant) idea for a t-shirt line which he would design and then sell off the design. So, all he has talked about this week is hiring a lawyer and copyrighting this thing, etc, etc, etc. For starters, I don't think this is his best idea but oddly it seems to be the one he is most enthusiastic about. We don't have the money to invest in this right now. My son is going to college next fall and Keira is starting preschool 2 days a week in July and bills for both are due soon.
So, he is kind of mad at me becuase 1. I'm not really excited about this idea and 2. putting the kibosh on the money becuase we don't really have it right now. I REALLY, really want to support him in this new adventure and I feel bad that I'm really not right now. But there have been SO MANY ideas over the years and I'm just kind of tired of him not following through on any of them. Am I in the wrong here?
Re: Kind of aggravated with DH.
If he's really interested in doing this, he needs to do some research. He doesn't need an attorney to copyright anything. I can get you more info but I have a friend who composes music and was copyrighting stuff left and right without the assistance of an attorney.
Also, there are ways he can have tshirts printed without startup costs. He needs to look into zazzle.com and cafepress.com.
He sounds like some people I know who are all stoked about starting something new. Then they invest in it and lose interest.
Thank you! I will definitely tell him to look at zazzle.com and I forgot about cafepress. More info on copyrighting would be great because I have no clue about it. He has done a little research but I think he's more put his effort into the deisgn and the "project plan" as he says.
Yes, he is very much a person who is all stoked about something new and then looses interest. Love him, love his creativity but wish he would just stick with an idea.
I can answer any Cafepress questions y'all may have. I used to work for them and I still sell stuff through them.
Legalzoom.com has copyright products but I didn't go far enough to see if they're available in your state. They estimated a copyright to cost $200 but you get your documentation back faster. I'm sure with additional research you could simply print out the necessary paperwork and complete it yourself and just pay the filing fee.
