FB conversation that is sooo irritating me!!! I hate sexism!!

Oh boy, women to serve on US Submarines now. As a sub veteran, I can surely tell you there is absolutely NO privacy down there!! Let the games begin! All's I ask is if they're selectec, they pass all the same rigorous tests we guys have in the past...no "lades tees" as in golf. They gotta don the turnout gear and h...See MoreMy Way News - Navy to allow women to serve on submarinesapnews.myway.comNavy to allow women to serve on submarinesYesterday at 1:47pm ? Comment ? Like ? Share
Don't worry ***, I am sure the ladies that want to do that will be able to handle it. I really never pegged you as the sexist type! Do you not like women pilots either?Yesterday at 2:23pm ?
Not sexist at all, ***. I just remember having women on the ship I went to Desert Storm on and the shenanigans that went on then. The most disgusting of all were the women who got pregnant just to get shipped home and got an abortion afterward.

I'm just saying Submarine life is anything but ordinary!! Everybody has to be able to do everybody ...See MoreYesterday at 3:00pm
****, The women I fought with in the first Gulf War could handle a machine gun better than some of the guys there. Additionally, when I flew in the military, the female pilots i flew with made great crewed a/c pilots. Physically, women can handle more Gs than a man's body. John don't be sexist.Yesterday at 4:30pm
Sounds sexist to me...10 hours ago
After training, a woman has about 1/2 to 2/3s the upper body strength of a guy. This whole thing is a clear signal that the US military no longer has war-winning as a top priority. I mean, we have not run out of the much stronger men, have we?
It is like we are begging the Chinese and Iranians to dominate our world because we have lost our nerve.
...In WW2 the Russians showed that they were willing to lose millions of their men PLUS thousand of their women. That made a strong point about wanting to win at all costs. Putting females out in front INSTEAD of men makes the opposite point.8 hours ago8 hours ago
Wow Ralph, just wow. This isn't 1920 anymore.22 minutes ago ?
This truly makes me feel blessed to have had the people in my life thus far that have never made an issue of male vs. female. I wonder how different my life would have been if I had had parents, friends and family that weren't cheering me on in my adventures in life. I have run into the occasional sexist male in aviation but for the most part I have had nothing but support. It is very, very sad to me that this is even an issue anymore. I hope those of you with the sexist views really think about how hurtful you are being to your mothers, and sisters when you make comments like these. This is nothing but pure bullying. ****..obviously you are a great guy. Your family should be proud!2 minutes ago ?

  • I have to be honest, when it comes to purely physical capabilities most women cannot perform as well as men.  It's just a fact of life.  Women and men are physically different and I don't have an issue with it being assumed that my strength/stamina is generally less than a man's.  If it were an intellectual matter, or someone making a blanket statement like "Women are bad drivers" then trust me I'd be the first to get VERY pissed off, but I really don't think women can argue they're physically equal to men, or else I think we'd have a lot more women firefighters (I know there are a few), NFL players, etc.

  • Ugh.  Just...ugh.  Set the standards, whatever it is they need to be, and let whoever, man or woman, that can meet those standards get the job.

This.  I hate the 'most men are stronger than most women' argument.  Who cares about "most", the point is, can a given individual do the job.  If he/she can, let 'em in.

I saw that attitude daily while I was on active duty, and it would p!ss me off.  I didn't squeak by on easy standards, thankyouverymuch.

  • This REALLY amuses me.  I am in the Navy AND I work in the Public Affairs Office for the entire submarine force.  I hear this day in and day out non stop.  What a stupid effing debate.  There are lots of people in the Navy who are slackers and idiots and plenty of them are men!  The navy experienced the same things back in '93 when women were put on surface ships.  These women will prove themselves a million times over!

This. Absolutely and completely. If people would cease using their egos as the source of their logic we wouldn't have to have this conversation.

  • That whole argument is flipping asinine. My good friend was in the Navy and then on a sub and the only time he had to do anything physically demanding was in basic training, and everyone had to do that, women and men. When he was actually on the sub he mostly just pushed buttons. And drank. And called everyone in his phonebook because he was dying of boredom.
