Military Families

Hello out there...

I've been lurking for a bit. DH and I have been married for almost a year now, a year in June!  We got a BFP at the beginning of April but sadly lost our LO about two weeks later. As soon as our doctor gives us the go ahead we plan on TTC again.  DH is AD AF...if you hadn't seen my SN yet. :) He's been in for alsmot 2 years now. We are stationed in Kansas and orginally from OK. I'm a teacher but can't find a job right now. I'm thinking about going back to school to get re-certified in another area. We have two fur-kids, Binx a Great Dane and Schroeder is a Jack Russel Chihuahua mix.

Re: Hello out there...

  • Welcome to the Military Families board!!!!!
  • Hi!

I'm an AD AF wife too, and also a teacher! I went back to school when we moved and I couldn't get a job (don't you love moving in the middle of a school year?) and got an education-related master's degree. Now I'm a sahm, so I feel like it was such a waste...but I miss the classroom! What grade do you teach?

  • Welcome to the board! I'm Sarah and H is AD AF. We're in Texas. Sorry about your MC. I MC'd back in Jan 09 and it was awful, so I definitely know what you went through.

Hi! I taught kindergarten and loved it. It was definately not my 1st pick. But I feel in love with them and it broke my heart to leave them. I'm certified to teach PK-3rd. And I'm thinking about going back for a Masters in Spec. Ed. I had planned on using MyCAA but I can't get an account right now. But as soon as I can I plan on it. My entire classroom is back up in boxes and I walk by them everyday. I bawled my eyes out the day that school started.

Kindergarten is my favorite! My Bachelor's degree is PK-3rd, so I did Elementary Reading and Literacy (K-6) for my Master's, so I had the option of being a Reading coach/specialist. My classroom is in boxes as well, but since I plan on being home with the next kiddo for at least a year, and we'll be moving mid-school year again, I went through all of my stuff (from teaching K, 1st and 2nd) and kept only my favorites. I gave the rest to my bff who is also an early childhood educator. I did keep all my books out to read to my ds, but I still get sad looking at my bookshelf of professional resources in our office. This is one of those times I wish we lived near family so I could at least have the option of going back to work and not having to put ds in daycare!

I'm still thinking about a Masters in Reading as well...I can't make my mind up but with the way that program is working I think I've got some time. I would love to take time of from teaching, if I'm teaching again once we have kids but the way that's going I don't think I'll have to. Kansas is in the middle of a hiring freeze and are actually going to have to lay off teachers. The district I worked for and my mom still works for are having to cut a bunch of teachers, mostly the ones who have taught less than 3 years or have been with the district for less than 3 years. Next year would have been the start of my 3 year to teach so I wonder if I would have still of had a job. I'd like to think so just because there were only 4 kindergarten teachers and we all had full classrooms. The size of classrooms right now really upsets me. I dont feel like I could have given as much small group and one on one time to them.
