potty training questions

Hi Everyone~

i have some questions. I have 3 boys , all different ages. My older two potty trained with pretty much no training needed by age 3. My youngest seems to be pretty stubborn. We started trying to train him around age 2 but i was working alot and they were at a sitters. she said she would help but i think she traumatized him, which is one reason why i quit and have stayed home with him. he would sit on the potty chair but do nothing. then i started working with him more and more and then we got the news we would be moving cross country so i kind of backed off of it since we would be driving 10 hrs a day minimum and couldnt be stopping every 20 min to see if he had to go potty. Ive been working on it slowly again (since he is 3 and going to be 4) ive asked him every 20 min and he goes without fail. He will even run in there himself and say mommy i have to go potty. we give him 3 choco chips or a hershey kiss if he goes. but when my husband watches( i have a part time job at nite) i tell him ask him every 20 min etc and leave out extra undies etc, and i come home and he says hes peed everyone of them etc or wouldnt go etc, and i usually have no problems. How do i get it so its continual every day for both of us, so hes only wearing a diaper at bedtime and naptime, and to eventually go #2 . my hubs thinks it should be a no brainer. my hubs wants to stop buying diapers by the time hes 4 this summer, but ive also been told by friends other parents etc that he will do it when hes ready, so i dont know hes just so way different when it comes to this than my other two, they just did it, one i just put undies on and he never had an accident, the other the same way. so help i could use ideas support etc thanks everyone in advance!

Re: potty training questions

  • Google the 3 Day Potty Training method. I know that boys can be later to train, but at nearly 4 years old, he needs to be using the potty full time. My DD was like your DS, in that we knew she was capable of recognizing the urge to "go" so one day she woke up and I put her in panties and never looked back. She has been PT'd for almost a year and seriously has only ever had less than a handful of accidents. Yes, they will do it when they are ready, but some times you need to give them a gentle shove in that direction :) Good luck.

  • Does he not go potty when your husband is watching him b/c he gets caught up in playing and has an accident?

What does he think about his older siblings going potty like big kids but not him?

  • yes he gets caught up playing and does have an accident. and im not sure my husband doesnt ask that often. his brothers are 15 and 7 and hes gone in with both of them and with dad and he just doesnt go with them around like he does me. the baby sitter he had would just sit him on the big potty and leave him there til he went and traumatized him. no potty ring or seat there, she did  the same to her own child because she didnt want to change diapers, so its been a long road back to get to the point we are. occasional accidents are fine but im really wanting to get him completely done. His potty chair even plays music when he pees, he gets so excited when he does it, i just need to know how to keep moving forward.
