Babies: 3 - 6 Months

diaper question

DD got hives yesterday that went away.  She got a couple more today.  I don't know why they're coming and going, but I'm not a fan.  W/ all this Pampers crap going around, I'm thinking we should just switch diapers to be safe.  The problem is...We've never used any other diaper.  Huggies were too wide for her while she was a newborn, but I don't know about now.  She's a narrow girl.

Any suggestions on brands/sizes (she wears size 2 swaddlers now)?

PS: I've been trying to convince DH on going w/ clothe for  months.  I don't think that's going to happen.

Re: diaper question

  • I actually find the huggies to be more narrow than pampers.  It could be how they sit on my dd, but you could always get a small pack and try them.

  • If you really want to try cloth you could do the Jillians drawer trial-it's only $10 and you get several different types of cloth to see which you like best.

Also-I had to convince DH too and now he is sooo glad I did. I worked up numbers (being a teacher-haha) and showed him on paper how much $$ we would be saving. We do bumGenius diapers and thirsties reuseable wipes. HTH!

I'm thinking about just starting them w/o really getting the OK by him.  He's usually pretty easy-going and doesn't stay mad for long.Embarrassed

How many covers and prefolds do you need?

  • FWIW my DH wasn't too excited initially but has been really happy now that he sees the savings, Also, the fact that potty training will likely be earlier was a selling point. That said, we have several dozen prefolds (some good ones and a bunch of cheap ones) and 5 Bummis covers. We do laundry every 2-3 days and sometimes hand wash a cover. If you can afford 8 covers it'd be better.

  • If you're wanting to stick with Pampers, try the baby dry line.
  • We do bumGenious AIO and I think that's why DH likes it so much. There are no covers or anything-it's All In One. They are more expensive but worth it to me. Thats why I rec doing the trial to see what works best for your family. I bought 6 to start with to make sure they worked well for us and then bought 20 more. I do wash every two days it works out pretty well. I wash mine in Tide powder detergent-dont bother buying expensive soaps.
