Fussiness after feeding--is she still hungry?!

I have been BFing my DD since she was born.  She eats about every 3.5 hours.  For the past few weeks, she has been getting more fussy but I attributed it to the 4 mo. wakeful.  Well, after her early afternoon feeding today, she kept fussing (like usual) and so I decided to try giving her a 4 oz. bottle.  She DRAINED it quick.  After BFing and the bottle she seems happy.

I'm assuming she is still hungry after BFing, but here's the thing...I still have milk.  I know this because I can squeeze it out myself after she's done!  What is going on?  Is she not sucking correctly?  Is my supply low for some reason?

 Anyone else dealt with this??

  • I would call up your local hospital and ask to speak with a LC.

  • I have no answers, but I just wanted to say, she is BEAUTIFUL! That picture with the blue bow is so cute!
  • I've been experiencing the same thing! I've got a call into my local LC. We'll see what she says...

  • Do you let her take a break and then nurse again?   My son will nurse and then stop.  But, after he sits up for a few minutes and hangs out he will often nurse again.   He seems to just like a break!

I used to think he was done and then he would want more shortly after. Now I know it is just his pattern.

  • yeah my DD does this... she started doing it at about the same time- 4 months. i always attributed it to being more aware of everything, and just kind of being over stimulated when she eats. and then when she is done, she wants to be removed quickly from the boob, to play, or she gets fussy. i thought maybe she wasn't getting enough, but it seems like when i sit her up, she usually stops fussing and forgets about eating. i dunno... i'm kinda lost myself...

  • I had this same problem exactly.  I have found that DS is done with nursing, but he's frustrated because he still just wants to suck something.  It doesn't work so well to suck me and look around and play, so he starts to cry.  I began giving him a pacifier for a few minutes after he nurses, and he loves it.  GL!
