Guys....that post got buried a while ago. LOL
My confession (by the time I got to it - after dying of laughter to most of them) is:
When I read ignorant-sounding, stupid and idiotic posts that have a shiitload of typos and a total lack of punctuation in them, my automatic impulse is to click on the poster's profile to see if they show how old they are.
And yes. I judge.
Re: My Flame-free Confession
I try to refrain from judging those who have been attacked by homonyms, but it irks me.
Accept = to take the circumstances for what they are. I accept this situation.
Except = everything else, but not that. I like most vegetables, except beets.
A lot of posters on here mix these up and I don't want to be snobby and call them out, so there's the lesson, please apply it!
:::DIES:::
Yes!!! Totally!!!
LOL
BTW...I totally want a tiger. I would call it Fifi.
To some people it may be more important than to others. I am NOT college educated, and I'm almost 30. But spelling and proper grammar are highly important to me because they were huge parts of how I was raised. My father learned English by reading a dictionary - in college. His English (both spoken and written) is better than most Americans'. That, IMO, is extremely sad.
everyone's allowed the occasional typo. and i piss off some people because i don't like to capitalize. see? and that's laziness, holding down shift key seems so hard sometimes.
but i can usually spot the difference between a typo and a homonym attack. believe vs. beleive, for instance. that's a typo. but their vs. there, that's not a typo. that's the wrong word, and it makes me fussy.
I understand but to be honest this is a relaxed setting...none of us are writing a thesis paper or trying to have our posts published in a scholarly journal...now yes when people make stupid mistakes it can get annoying to read through a post, but a typo here or there is not so bad right?
The word spelling should have been capitalized since it started the sentence.....see how dumb that was? We all should try to spell properly and use correct grammar but this is a relaxed writing situation, it is not that deep.
it might, you never know.
and typing fast = typos. those don't bother me. i get typos. it's the wrong word usage, that's not because you are going too fast. that's because you don't know better. i don't type so fast that i switch they're and their. that's not a function of speed, it's a function of either not knowing or not caring which word (or contraction) has which meaning. and it throws me off when i read because I try to make sense of it. the "accept" and "except" one does this to me all the time, because i'm trying to figure out the point, and then i realize, it's the wrong word entirely.
I've seen people use "they're" for "there" too. That is super annoying! Oh, and for some reason when people type "definately" instead of "definitely" multiple times it really bugs me. There's not a in definitely.
Grammar and spelling are both important to me. I understand this is a relaxed setting, but how hard is it to spell correctly? Don't people have incorrectly spelled words underlined in red on their computers? It frustrates me.
I hate when people spell definitely "definately"
BARF
The thing that gets me is that people who text-speak will often use "ur" for "your" and "u r" for "you're".
So, the text-speakers get that there's a difference, but quite a few, if not most, of the posters on this board can't get your/you're right.
Not that I agree with text-speak AT ALL - in fact, I'm totally with Monkiem on this one - 100% of it.
Since I'm an English teacher, all of these things mildly annoy me. The one that KILLS me though? Spelling definitely as "defiantly."
As in, with defiance? Come ON!
Yes,I'm smiling...I'm a marathoner!

All of what you said...and I also might sometimes look at where they're from and also judge.
Shame on me.
All of these annoy me. It's the teacher in me! I also look at the profile and judge.
BTW, definitely was spelled incorrectly today, I was cringing. LOL
Hahaha! Yes...! Actually, Kelz said it, too...I look at location and judge, as well.
Another one is when people don't know the difference between THEN and THAN.
i'm with you. you don't need words to be capitalized to be understood... but for the life of me, sometimes i cannot make out what a person was trying to spell. maybe i identify proper spelling and homonyms with my mom? grammar too... she was always getting on our cases about "me and him went to the store" and such. i kind of think it's a parent's job to know all that crap.
