Pls rec your family Dr./general practitioner

My GP who is 150 years old (and was my dad's GP) is retiring and (mainly for insurance purposes), I need to find a new doctor. I rarely ever go to the doctor (I see my ob/gyn way more often). I loved him b/c he is "old school" and has known me since I was a pup so would call in Rx refills and give me referrals without always having to make an office visit. I would love to find somebody competent, nice and that laid back, but don't know if that exists anymore. Anyway, if you love your GP/family Dr., have an easy time getting hold of the nurses/getting Rx refills/referrals, etc and the office is somewhat central, please share!

ETA: My ob/gyn cannot be my PCP - I already asked.

  • I see Dr, Finken at ARC at Far West.  I usually prefer to see women, even for my GP, but I like him so much that I see him for everything non-female related, and see my midwife for the rest.  He's pretty young, early 30's I think, and super-nice.  What's kinda weird is that AFTER I started using him, I found out that his son plays on my nephew's soccer and t-ball teams.  Small world.  Anyway, I'm really happy with him and the staff there.

  • I see Dr. Isobel Hoverman.  She is near Lamar and 38th street, very central.  She is very accessable and actually takes time to listen to me about an issues I have.  I recommend her to everyone.
