CD'ing overnight

We're doing the trial pack from Jillian's and still using disposables at night.  I'm about ready to make the jump to CD full-time, but I have a couple problems for overnight.

First, DS is a heavy wetter.  He soaks the diapers in the trial pack in an hour or two.  I could try several extra boosters to get through the night, but that's not even guaranteed and it seems uncomfortable.

Second, we use a Snuza motion alarm on DS's diaper at night.  It clips on the top of the diaper.  The clip isn't fat enough to go around a cloth diaper stuffed with a ton of inserts to keep him dry.

So, which CDs are the best for overnight?  Is there anything that is naturally more absorbant so I don't have to make it as fat?  Thanks!

Re: CD'ing overnight

  • I personally use a mother ease Sandy's fitted with 2 doublers and a thirsties cover, it's not huge but it's not trim. I don't know that you'll find something really trim for overnight.

DD's CD is HEAVY in the morning, she's a heavy wetter as well.

you can also use hemp instead of cotton , it is thinner and more absorbant

Can you just clip it to the top of the diaper? I'm not sure what the motion alarm is but if it were me I'd just clip it to the cover if that would work.

Also sustainablebabyish bamboo fitteds might work for you too, and lots of mama's use wool or fleece at night

  • We use the BG 3.0 with the regular insert and 2extra soakers (just recently upped from 1 soaker).  What do you have?
  • We use a BG 3.0 pocket with the larger insert and a bamboo doubler.  The bamboo is really thin but holds a lot. Or we use a prefold with a bamboo doubler and a gerber cloth diaper as a doubler. Can you just clip the monitor on a part of the diaper not the whole thing. Like if you use the prefold method and just clip it on the cover.

  • Thanks ladies.  The trial came with a couple pockets (BG and FuzziBunz), some AIO (Dream Eze, BG), prefolds, a Thirsties fitted & cover, and Gro Baby with some inserts.  I figured the best option was probably one of the pockets stuffed with extra inserts from the others since the trial doesn't come with a lot of boosters.  But I tried it last night and it was way too fat.  DH vetoed it because he thought it made DS's butt higher than his back.  LOL.  Oh, and the Snuza wouldn't clip to the top.

It's good to hear that there are some options.  I'll look at hemp and dig around a bit.  I need to order something soon.

  • Did the BG come with the reg size insert and NB insert?  The two of those are pretty good soakers.  Maybe those with a prefold?  Since I have a huge stash of BGs, I just use the reg size one and 2 NBs.

I just got some hemp inserts too, those are pretty good. you could also call jillian's drawers and ask them what they suggest out of what they gave you, they've been very helpful when I've called.

Good idea.  I didn't think of that.  Embarrassed

  • I use FB's pretty much exclusively, and at night, I just add a hemp insert behind the microfiber insert.
  • I haven't had leaks when I wrap a microfiber insert in a prefold and lay it trifolded in a Flip or Econobums cover. The diaper is HEAVY in the morning, but no leaks. I don't find it to be too huge either.

  • My daughter is also a heavy wetter, but we usually make it through the night with a pocket diaper (Fuzzibunz, BG 3.0, or Blueberry) with 2 hemp inserts around the microfiber insert. Good luck.

  • I am totally absentminded today, i did not mean bamboo inserts I meant hemp.

  • Oh an put a wool cover over any diaper you choose even if it is already waterproof.  The wool will absorb any leakage.
