Its not the going to sleep part...

For the most part I read my DS a story, kiss him, put him in bed at 7pm and he goes to sleep.  My problem is that he still wakes to eat AT LEAST 2 times a night.  I've tried to increase the amount of time between each feeding but he still wakes up at the same time and then cries until we pick him up and rock him.  Last night, despite having eaten at 1:30am, he was up from 4-5:15am crying and inconsolable even after we picked him up at 5am.  I fed him then and he went right back to sleep.  Any suggestions?

  • I'm no help. I have a similar problem. DD goes to sleep without any issues but wakes sreaming 2-3 times per night. She will go back to sleep after I rock/hold her but doesn't need to nurse.

  • B still is waking twice during the night- 11pm and 3am and will only go back to sleep if nursed.  I tried to cut the 11pm nursing, but he was inconsolable and it took him about an hour of crying on and off to get back to sleep.  He was still waking at the same time after 3 nights of this, so I just nurse him still.  He also goes down pretty easily at first, but if he doesn't nurse in the middle of the night he screams and it's really hard for him to go back down.
  • She was waking 5-6 times per night when we finally had to CIO. It worked wonders for us. She's still up once a night every now & then, but its loooaadddss better, and she can usually put herself back to sleep within a few minutes. Good luck.
  • Do you breastfeed? We ended up switching to formula at bedtime and she does pretty well now. When I was still nursing her at night she would wake more frequently. I pump and she gets bm during the day, but her bedtime bottle is formula.
