At my 40 week appointment my doctor stripped my membranes (for the 3rd time) That afternoon around 4pm I started having real contractions. When I got to the hospital at 2:30am I was 3cm. I stayed at 3cm for hours! That evening they broke my water. I was 5cm. Things progressed throughout the evening. I had wanted to go natural but had decided if contractions got bad I would take gas... unfortunatly the gas made me gag so I ended up begging for an epi. They gave me a shot of something through my IV to help while I waited for the epi. When the epi came I was so relieved.
Things progressed over night and 35hrs into my labour I began pushing. I pushed for 4hours. We could see the babies head but he wouldn't move down. I started begging for them to just get the baby out. His heart rate began going very high and very low and I was exhausted so they called for a vaccuum assisted delivery. The doctors found that the baby wasn't in a good position so they attempted to turn the baby (not pleasent!) Then they attempted 3 times to get the baby out with the vaccuum. He wouldn't budge, and the vaccuum popped off his head each time. The babies heart rate dropped and I was then rushed out for an emergency C-section. The wheel on my bed was broken and everyone was panicing to get me into the operating room. After they got the baby out, it took them 4 minutes to get my baby to start breathing.
After 40hrs of labor my baby was finally out. We named him Drake Aron Joseph, he was 7lbs 2oz & 20". He spent his first two days in the NICU and his poor lil nose was completely smooshed and he had a lot of bruising. He is now doing wonderful and everyone was extremely impressed with his progress after such a difficult birth. Breastfeeding has gone great without any issues. I'm so happy to have my little boy!
