Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Mom's of Colic babies...please help

My little one is 11 weeks old so we are nearing the 3 month mark.  Everyone has been saying that the Colic symptoms get better between the 2-3 month mark and that after 3 months, they are usually gone.  However, I have just found another website where they say it could last up to 6 months!  So...I need some reassurance please!!!  Did your LO's symptoms all of a sudden disappear, was it a gradual change, or are you still dealing?  And how do you even try to get them on a schedule when they are colic?  We do have a nighttime routine, but the daytime is up and down and up and down all day long with maybe one long nap sometime during the day.  My first child was easy with 2 naps on set times, but with my DD, I can't even imagine putting her on a day schedule when she's like this.  Please help!!!  Thanks bunches!

  • My daugher only had colic for about a month -- one week it just tapered off all on its own.

I'm not sure what you can do about a daytime routine, but we found that both Mylecon and Gripewater helped out with pain.  Something else that helped expel gas was to move her legs in a bicycle motion.  Being carried in a Baby Bjorn also seemed to help -- she would often fall asleep.

If you are formula feeding, have you considered switching to a gentler type of the same brand?  Both Similac and Enfamil have one.

    Good luck!  :)

  • DD didn't necessarily have colic but she was an extremely fussy baby up until 2 or 3 weeks ago. She did not any schedule and really only slept in 30 minute increments. It was definitely a gradual change. We didn't even attempt to get her on a schedule because it really was impossible. She cried at the drop of a hat, so we just did what we could to keep the crying to a minimum and kept in mind that it would eventually end!

She is just now getting on a bit of a schedule and life is getting much easier! I think 6 months is rare...I think 3-4 months of most common. So hang in there, it might just be a little bit longer :)

  • It got better gradually around the 3 month mark.  He's still a fussy baby at times, but definitely WAY better than when his colic was at its worst.  Once I started tuning in to his natural schedule, things seemed to get better.  For him, his schedule seemed to work out to be awake for about 1.5 hours (including feeding & diaper changes) and then down for a 45 minute nap. He's sort of still on the same schedule, although now he'll go anywhere from 1.5 to 2.5 hours awake before he gets fussy and needs to nap.
