3rd Trimester

Vacation at 32 weeks - yay or nay?

My doctor has no problem with it, but I'm not sure what the odds are that I'll be horribly uncomfortable and not want to sit on a plane for 4 hours at that point. I'm 27 weeks now and feel great, but it's so hard to predict how I'll feel in a month. Would you book the trip? If it matters, it would be a relaxing beachy type of vacation. Paradise  I can't book the trip for an earlier date due to other commitments.

  • If your Dr. has no problem with it then I would say go for it! I am 32 weeks and 3 days and still feet great! I do have some swelling in my feet that I have had since 27 weeks or so but its not very uncomfortable or anything.. especially if you will just be relaxing by the beach, I think that sounds great!

  • Yay. ... or could you find a beach vacay that's in driving distance?  Then you could stop frequently and pee/walk around?
  • Ugh, with the lightening crotch, painful kicking, and sore breasts, I do not feel like going anywhere more than 45 minutes away from home until the baby is born.
  • I felt great at 32 weeks and definitely would go!

  • I'd go if I were you. I took a 4.5 hour flight at 31 weeks and was fine. Now, travel at 33 weeks wasn't so smooth, but I think you'll be fine at 32 weeks--especially if your doc ok'ed it.

  • I went to Vegas from NY at 30 weeks, the plane ride was uncomfortable but manageable, but the vacation was relaxing so it was worth it.
  • I would've been okay with it, given doctor's okay. I haven't swelled up, been sick, have back pain, etc. It just depends on the person. Others at 32 weeks may have had negative pregnancy symptoms and would advise not to. Good luck with your decision.

  • At 32 weeks I wouldn't have been comfortable at all on a 4 hour flight. That was around the time that I was most uncomfortable with heartburn, exhaustion, and soreness.

  • If your doctor says ok I would go for it. I went on vacation at 28 weeks when I felt horrible but it was still so awesome to be on beach relaxing.

  • I'd go for it!  I flew around 30 weeks and the pressure change did make my hands and feet swell, but nothing unbearable.  Heck, I'd fly somewhere right now if I could, I'm sick of frost every morning and below freezing nights Paradise

  • I went to West Palm Beach Florida (from Jersey) when I was 32 weeks.... If your feeling good I say go for it! It could be your last ho-rah for a little while!

  • i felt great at 32 weeks and would definitely have gone on vacation.  then again, at 39 weeks i still feel great and am sleeping well.  that's not the case for everyone.

if i were you, i would go and enjoy the relaxation and warm sunshine before the baby comes!  :)

  • I would go, because this could be the last time you get to do that for a while.  Although at 32 weeks I was having pre-term contractions and I wasn't feeling the best.  However if I were relaxing on a beach, that might have improved things Wink

  • I'd do it. And I am. :) We're going to Maui in May. I'll be 31 & 32 weeks.

  • Yes!  I am leaving in 3 weeks to the Riviera Maya, Mexico for a wedding and I will be 32 weeks.  I am so looking forward to it.  But I've also had a pretty easy going pregnancy so far.

  • Just lurking, but... Do it!  I'm going to Florida in June when I'll be 31 & 32 weeks.

Ditto. I traveled from Ohio to San Diego at 32 weeks. Granted I had a layover, so it wasn't one long flight, but two shorter flights. But I felt fine. I was just really tired when we got there!

  • I'm 32 weeks now. I don't feel too uncomfortable sitting for long periods of time. I do like to stand up and walk around a little bit every couple of hours though. I have a harder time trying to get comfortable sleeping then I do sitting. I say go for it!

  • I am 32 wks and feel fine. Last pregnancy I flew 4 hours at 33 weeks to go to a shower. The only problem was that i was in the last row and couldn't recline so that was a little uncomfortable, but besides that it was no problem.

  • I'm in the same boat except we are driving for 6 hours.  We are going to stop halfway and spend the night on the way out so that will help, and I just keep telling myself it will be worth it once we're laying on the beach.  I just figured if we don't go now, we aren't going to have another chance for a long time.  DS is almost 20 months old and this is our first getaway.
  • I'm pretty uncomfortable and would definitely be miserable on a plane. That being said, I would STILL go. But there is very little to deter me from a vacation. I'd endure the plane ride for some relaxing beach time!
  • Go! I flew around 32 weeks to a wedding and while it was a little rough on me I would so do it to lay on the beach. Have fun!
