Annalise tells me she wants one because sometimes she just gets tired of walking. ;-)
The only double strollers I've seen in stores have a 40 lb weight limit for each seat. She's 39-40 lbs right now.
Is it worth getting a double stroller? Are there any options out there for bigger kids that aren't $$$?
Re: Did you buy a double stroller with kids 4 years apart?
Nope. I decided against it. I figured if someone GAVE me a sit and stand or something I wouldn't refuse it, but I wasn't going to invest in anything.
Sometimes I'll still throw Gretchen in the jogging stroller to walk the dogs (so we can keep a brisk pace) and if we have to do that, I'll wear the baby. However, Gretchen is capable of walking our entire dog route (about 1.5 miles) and she even helps walk one of the dogs sometimes, so I think her days of needing to ride at all are numbered. . . or she could ride her bike while we walk the dogs.
Long story short, no.
I probably would not have. my dc are close in age... but I carried ds in an infant carrier a lot the first 9 months while dd rode (or she walked, he rode). We didn't buy a double stroller until he was 9m/o.
wait, carry baby if you can... I'd probably get an ergo carrier if we had a 3rd (which we're not). you can also look into those boogy boards that attach to your single stroller...
exactly. we went to a book festival at UCLA last weekend and had DS in the carrier and DD in the stroller when she got tired.
edit: I might buy a used sit n stand if I felt DD needed it. She'll be 4 in July.
Christmas 2011
I'm hoping not to be done with #2 either; I just need to somehow convince DH that he wants #3.
I wasn't planning to get a double stroller. DD was just so excited about the ones at BRU that we saw the other day. But since I still can't find one that goes over 45 lbs and 40" (and she's way over 40" now), I'll just have to tell her they don't make any big enough. She's probably over the weight/height limit of the stroller we have now. She hasn't used it since last summer.

Kaitlyn and Nathan are about 4.5 years apart, Nathan never went in a stroller after Kaitlyn was born. The thought to get one never crossed my miind. Allison just turned 4 and she hasn't been in a stroller for a long time.
If we go to the zoo or something like that, we just take our wagon.
Tough love here too. DS was only 2.5 and I didn't even get one then. If he really had to get in the stroller then I wore the baby. most of the time I wore the baby and didn't bring the stroller at all. I hate seeing bigger kids in strollers. That's my nest flamable statement of the day.
(obviously people who run/walk for exercise.. like miles at a time is a different scene. But a 4 year old in a stroller under normal circumstances is v. odd to me).
My kids are 23 months apart and the ONLY time we EVER use our double stroller (which I paid $50 for off Craigslist, so I don't feel badly not using it) is to walk the dog. We walk her 2ish miles almost every day and Kate can't keep the type of pace that is necessary for the dog to actually get any exercise. The double stroller has literally NEVER been in my car, in fact, it doesn't even fit.
If we go to the zoo or something, we bring the Ergo and a single Maclaren. I carry Ben if Kate gets tired, but most of the time he's the one in the stroller and she walks.
We may buy a buggie board.
