DD just turned 5 yesterday. She was going to bed at 9pm but still taking a 2 hour nap during the day from about 1:30-3:30. We told her that when she turned 5 she didn't have to take naps anymore, but now I'm thinking we need to push her bedtime up a little bit to say...8 or so? What do you think?
Re: What time does your child go to bed?
My DD no longer naps. She usually goes to bed around 6:30/7 p.m. and wakes up at 5:30/6 a.m. (regardless of when she goes to sleep).
When she dropped her nap, I made her bedtime about 60-90 mins earlier.
DS #1 is almost 4.
His naps are hit or miss. (mostly miss)
His bed time is 8:30, wakes up around 7:30.
When he doesn't nap he passes right out.
When he does nap he tosses and turns until about 10.
So... I'd say his "sleep" time is 8:30 - 7:30 without nap and 10 - 7:30 with nap. That's a 1.5 hour difference here.
Were I in your shoe's I would push her bed time up! You can listen and see what time she actually falls asleep and adjust it up or back from there.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
DS just turned 4. He goes to be between 9-10 depending on what time he woke up that day. He wakes up between 9-9:30 usually. He hasn't napped for the last year or so. When he dropped his nap last year, we thought we would put him to bed earlier. It didn't work. He still went to bed at the same time.
Too late....LOL!
We are having major bedtime procrastination issues.
I would ideally like him in bed by 8:30ish, but lately its more like 9-9:30ish and he has been screaming lately in the process......so frustrating!
He still takes a 2 hour nap most days........
DS still takes naps sometimes. We still always "rest".
He generally is asleep between 9:30-10pm and wakes between 8-9am.
I would definitely try to push up bedtime by a hour and let her sleep as long as she wants in the morning and see how that goes. Maybe you'll need to push it even earlier depending.
I'm not sure what the sleep recommendations are for a 5 year old. Maybe you could google?

DD is hit and miss on her naps. She's the last to fall asleep at school and the first to wake up. She rarely naps at home anymore.
She goes to bed between 7:30 and 8.

They still have "quiet/rest" time at DS's preschool and he always falls asleep which means he's not tired until 9:00 or 9:30 at night. We start the bedtime routine around 8:00 and let him read books/play on his Thomas laptop until he falls asleep.
On the weekends, he doesn't nap and goes to bed about 7:30 or 8:00.
