I've never posted on this board, but thought y'all might have some good insight on carriers. i plan on wearing LO a lot, and we are using a convertible car seat instead of an infant carrier/bucket seat so i figure she will be work most of the time while we are out in addition to at home.
I have a ring sling and a mei tai. Do you think I ought to get a moby wrap (or a simiar thing?) or will the two I have work fine? I really want a moby and planned on getting one but got a great deal on a used mei tai so I bought it, and now I just don't know if I need 3 carriers...
thanks! I really appreciate y'alls time!
btw, i'm also posted on the EFF board sry if y'all have to see it twice...
Re: question about wraps and slings
THIS!
DH recently put me on a 7 carrier minimum, but I think I can stretch it to 10 if I play my cards right. LOL. I have tried a ton of carriers and we've now settled on full-time woven wraps. The moby was my first one, so I say go for it!
With DS I had 3 carriers and thought I was being all crazy.
Now with DD I have I think 6.... and I use them all (or will when she is bigger.
If you are going to wear your babe a lot it is nice to have versatility. For a newborn (the first 2+ months) I switch between my Moby (more comfy for me) and my Kangeroo Korner fleece pouch which both my babies have LOVED. It is my go-to carrier in the evenings during fussy time when nothing else will calm them down.
In total I have:
Moby (DD is ~13 lbs. and already getting to heavy for it)
Woven wrap (just ordered to replace the Moby)
KK Pouch (DD is getting too heavy for this already- it hurts my back now).
Beco: I got this bc DH can't do a back carry on his own with the inner panel that the Beco has.
Ergo: Got it used for pretty cheap. The most comfy to carry my 30 lb. 2 year old.
2 ring slings that I keep in the car and stroller for hip carries if we are running in and out of a store etc. I don't like RS's for little babies- only once they are ~6 months and can do a hip carry.
ETA: forgot the mei tai. Good for a high back carry at 3-7 months when they are too little so see over your shoulder in the SSC.
This. Plus I have 2 pouch slings too and I'm working on getting an Ergo/Beco/soft structured carrier as well
I don't think 3 is excessive at all (says the mama with way too many wraps!). Most people find that different carriers work better for different things - like a wrap might be best for a sleepy snuggle nap, a ring sling might be easiest for a quick run into the store, and your mei tai might be most comfortable for going on a walk.
You could certainly get by without it but it couldn't hurt to try it. I tried lots of things in the beginning to see what was most comfortable for us - then sold the things I didn't like/use.
