Vent: Not everything is pregnancy-related

I'm starting to notice that whatever I do, people jump to the conclusion that it's a pregnancy thing.  I scratch my stomach once, and get asked "are you itchy?".  I order onion rings once, and automatically everyone says it's a craving.  I say something sarcastic, and it's hormones.

Anyone else notice that they are only seen in pregnant terms?

  • Yep.  I had an ice cream cone leaving work the other day and a total stranger came up to me and was all "Oh, had an ice cream craving, huh?"  Actually, it was cake and ice cream day for lab week and I was taking part, but thanks for asking.

  • Yes! I work with all guys so whenever I show the slightest bit of frustration all I hear is "watch out, pregnancy hormones!" like I am about to turn in to Pregzilla and blow fire on them. aargh.

  • Yes!! And it drives me crazy! "Oh, you're too hot? Yep, must be those pregnancy hormones!" Uh, no. It's 82 in your house!
  • Yup!!!

I swear it feels like I am only a vessel carrying on DH's family name.

Yup, and I know that as soon as I give birth, I'll be totally expendable.  Hah.

  • My DH is the worst about blaming my eatting habits on cravings! He's like "you never used to eat bananas..." Uh, yeah I did but maybe you just never really paid attention to what I was and wasn't eatting before?

  • Yes - this is a constant source of frustration for me!  Everytime I go to the bathroom, eat anything, rub my belly absentmindedly, etc. - it garners a comment about pregnancy symptoms.  So only pregnant women eat and use the restroom, no one else, really?  Ugh.

  • Ugh.  My Father in Law does this all the time.  AND any time he sees me he asks "How's my Grandaughter?"

    She's fine.

I'm fine too.  Thanks for asking.

My coworkers started those comments as soon as they found out I was pregnant at 12 weeks.  Finally I pointed out I'd been exactly the same way before I was pregnant and they were all like, oh yeah, you were.  Haha.

  • Yes, it's irking. The other day I was having hot flashes at my friends house and they were like "o those hormones are working!" and I'm like, "um, no it's just hot in your house." and then yesterday I was crying because I was so uncomfortable and tired but of course that was blamed on hormones. If I didn't have hormones apparently I wouldn't be crying?
