Ok, so I'm a SAHM right now, but Eric may be finding a new job soon, and that means more bills unfortunately. Right now he works out of a company van, and we get free tv from his work. So, just leaving where he works now, we'll have to start paying for tv, car insurance (we're not paying any right now because we never use his car), and gas money.
So, my question is, how do I list being a SAHM or do I just need to leave that part out altogether? I graduated college in Dec '08, got pregnant in
April '09 and quit my part time retail job (same one I had throughout college) in June '09.
I have never had a job that used my degree...so I just really don't know how I should update it.
WWYD?
Re: Resume question:
I was curious to know the answer, and since no one has answered, I googled it.
https://www.ehow.com/how_2184184_stay-home-mom-experience-resume.htmlUnless you are applying for a job in a childcare field, the SAHM stuff should not go on the resume'. It sucks, but it is what it is.
Just put down your work experience and the dates you were employed. You don't need to specify why you left.
Put all your effort into the cover letter and make it work for the company you are wanting to work for. Go to their website, throw in some stuff you learned about them i.e. "Since you were rated four stars for customer service in 2009 by the City Paper, I know that my skills at XYZ will enhance your team....Yada yada"
The cover letter is what gets you in the door. Not some BS letter where you change the company name in the address area or in the body of the text....Also, a "Thank you for your time" note mailed as soon as you leave an interview will not go amiss. If they don't have a job for you at this time, they have seen your name more than once and may save your resume' since you were appreciative of their time...Good Luck!
You are a recent graduate. You have job experience. I wouldn't list the SAHM.
Your resume will be compared to other first time job seekers recently out of college. I would bet a majority of them do not have kids yet......Your resume' needs to be on par or better than the other ones out there.
Unfortunately, "I have a child" is not a bullet point you want to have. 9 times out of 10 it will not work in your favor. You are not being ashamed by not mentioning baby. You are being smart. Wait until you get the interview and feel out the company about if they are family friendly or not....then bring up DC. The market is way too tight right now to mention something in your resume' that would be a deal breaker right out of the gate.
I do recruitment for work, so I see thousands of resumes every day. ?I never see "SAHM" listed. ?Of course, during an interview, the interviewer will ask why there is a lapse in employment and you can explain then. ? I don't think it has any place on your resume. ??
