Do any of you ladies work from home? If so what do you do? I want to be able to stay at home with my son but at the same time bring in some sort of income.
I wedding and event plan. I love it because I could get up in the morning and answer emails and correspond with my clients. Also I love it because I would always know which day they would need me in advance so I could plan around it. It does bring in income but where I live, in the Winter, it slows down so I started waitressing [to keep from boredom]. But now, it is picking up again and also I have a LO on the way so it would suit me better to wedding/event plan before and after LO gets here.
Another thing people do is sell products and host parties displaying those products, you always know when you have to work because people request days they want parties.
I'm trying to find someone up here that needs a permanent babysitter, and I'm going to the local Red Cross, and taking the review course for First Aid, and CPR for Adult and Children/Infant. Its always good to be prepared!
Thanks ladies! I was a waitress for a LONG time (parents own restaurants) and I REALLY don't want to do it again I was looking at the Etsy website because I make blankets but it looks like there is already a corner on that market lol. How did you get into event planning if you don't mind me asking? I worked in a daycare for a year and I was a nanny for 3 years so I will probably look at getting into that again if he asses AD.
While I'm trying to finish up my teaching degree just in case we don't homeschool, I'm also looking into becoming a medical transcriptionist. The program is usually around six months to get certified, you can work from home and I would assume it would transfer well state-to-state. I think the program does usually cost a few hundred though.
My local community college does the program so you could always check yours if you're interested in it.
I've seen a lot of advertisements about doing medical transcription and I might look into that one too! I love being at home I just hate not bringing in income!

I feel the same way. I know being a SAHM is one of the furthest things from lazy, but not bringing in any income makes me feel like a bum.
Ive always enjoyed waitressing because I met so many new people. But I understand why you wouldnt want to! Hehe!
I dont mind I'd be glad to tell you! Well when I was in high school I loved to plan parties and then I planned my wedding and also my friends weddings. I had also planned numerous parties. I was trying to think of what to go to college for and I couldnt come up with anything but then I broke it down into hobbies and I came up with "Oh I could go to school for wedding and event planning" I researched it more and found a really great online school [has certifications, nationally accredited] I was moving so it was perfect. I actually started school and because it was already summer I started advertising for free planning because I was not yet certified and I did plan a wedding and a few parties to add into my portfolio. I advertised very minimal and it brought a great outcome because of the market/demand here. Of course the season slowed down and after the holiday parties I did go and find a part time job. But since the season is picking up I might jump back into it this year. I actually love doing it, I just wanted to focus more on finishing my school rather than building my portfolio. Just my best advice is to make sure you love it before investing so much time and effort into it Its stressful sometimes but its a lot of fun and a great way to showcase your creativity.
everyone here has had some great suggestions. The only income I really bring in is my GI bill stipend for school and my VA benefits :-( If you like to write, Seed.com is part of AOL and will pay you per article, and I do that sometimes just because it's fun. I also know a Mil wife that works for americorps, and I know they have those lots of places too. GL!
Yeah I've always been a very independent person and have never relied on anyone for money so it's an adjustment to go from working full time to just being at home with DS. Don't get me wrong I love every minute and I know I am lucky to be able to stay at home I just wish there was a way I could help out more!
Thanks for the info on event planning, I love to plan things and this never really crossed my mind to go to school for. I was in school for Nursing but because we aren't sure where we will be sent after DH commissions I had to change to just an AA but I might look into classes to further me in something like this. I love nursing but now that I have DS I'm not sure I want the crazy hours while he is young.
Don't feel bad about not having a job we are currently living off of his ROTC stipend and monthly VA payments! We are on a tight budget but still well off. You do what you have to when you have a child!
