We just have one convertible seat. We just take my car if we go anywhere as a family or if for some odd reason we needed to take DH's we'd just move it.
As for travel...you can check it at the gate...same, I'd assume, with an infant carrier?
We only have one. Right now I am staying home so there is no need for a second one. When we are together, we take my car. When DS starts daycare in the fall, I am going to be doing all of the dropping off/picking up, so we may never need a second one.
We have one carseat that would get moved... if we ever actually moved it. We actually just coordinate who drives which car based on what is going on on that particular day with DS.
We have 2... DH typically drops DD off at daycare and I pick her up (she goes 2 days/week). If we didn't have the daycare issue, we would probably just have one in the car we use most often (we never take DH's car when we go out together). I would not want to move the seats... we are actually going to get a cheaper seat for when we travel (since we don't travel frequently without our own cars)
we have one for each car...i take DS to daycare and DH picks him up so there's no chance for us to just use 1 car. i wouldn't want to switch the seat back and forth frequently...i didn't find it THAT easy to install...
we have two seats but i think we may need a third with as much commuting and switching as we do. DS is with me three days a week, daycare 3 days a week and my mom 1 day a week and we all drive with him so its a hassle.
DD still fits the specs for her infant carrier, so we put that in SO's car and have the new cushy convertible carseat in my Jeep (which she rides in more often.) When she outgrows the infant carrier, we'll replace it with a no-frills convertible (probably Cosco Scenera).
Up until recently we were only using my car when out with Cam, with our one base/infant seat. A couple of weeks ago I installed the convertible seat into my car and the infant seat base into DH's car (Cam still very barely fits into the infant seat). When he no longer fits in the infant seat I will move the convertible seat into DH's car because he will be off for the summer, so we will only use his car in the summer, and then when DS goes to daycare come the fall, we will get a second convertible seat.

We have one for each car. There is no way I want to change the seat every day. I have bucket seats in my car so it needs a foam wedge under it to make it level so it stays since the car seat inspector installed it. I would not want to screw that up. It is a lot easier this way too. I figure she will be in it until she is at least 50 pounds so they will get a lot of use.

This. I'm not sure about traveling. We have driven so far with the convertible.
We have two. I commute with DS everyday and we take SO's car for any other trips. It is a pain to try to switch from car to car, so we bought another seat.
we are still using the infant seat- we have a base in each car. But pretty soon we'll just leave the infant seat in one and put the convertible in the other until we buy a 2nd convertible. But since DD is small I am okay with using the infant seat as long as she safely fits in it.

We only have one convert. seat and we don't move it. It doesn't fit in DH's car (Jeep) very well RF, it has such a shallow backseat. So, whoever isn't with DS takes the Jeep. And whoever has the baby (or when we do things as a family) takes the Rendezvous.
When we can turn him around to FF, I think we'll get another seat so that we don't have to worry about who is taking which car when.
We have 6 cars and 3 seats we move them around when we need to but his nice seat is in my car unless we are going on a trip and one of the seats is almost always at home but if we need it we can grab it and install it.
