If you have dog/dogs, what do you do with them all day while your at work. I'm going to be out of the house tomorrow longer than normal, about 8-10 hours and I don't want to leave them alone. Normally I put them in daycare but I won't be home in time to pick them up. Pick up is by 6pm. One of my babies is only 5 months old and I just don't feel right leaving her that long. Any suggestions?

Re: Question about your furbabies
Can you have someone stop by and let them out? A neighbor or friend?
My dogs are alone in the house (have free reign) if they don't go to daycare (they usually go 3x a week). Usually they are alone for about 9 hours. Sometimes more, sometimes less. If it is going to be more than 11 hours and they aren't going to daycare for whatever reason, our best friends live across the street from us and they let them out. If they aren't home, our next door neighbors let them out. But we all have dogs (between the there families there are 9 dogs) so we all help each other out.

I heard that as far as puppies go, they can hold it for as many months as they are old, so for a 5 month old, that's 5 hours. I would get someone to stop by and let them out.
We crate trained our puppy for about a year and a half starting when we got him, which was at 5 months. He had a lot of accidents at that point. Once we started gradually letting him have full reign of the house, he was really good about holding it and not chewing things. It seems mean to do at first but was so worth it.
Honestly...mine are crate trained when we aren't home. Most days it's only 8.5 hours and it's actually helped with their bladder control, etc. Then we make sure they get lots of exercise when we are home.
I am a little concerned though because DH has been home more often,so I may have a little bit of a problem when DH goes back to work full time.
What about those pee pads you can use for dogs to go on. Something like this:

I have never used them, and its probably a little too late for you to get into before tomorrow, but for next time?
Worst thing that happens tomorrow is the little guy goes in his cage and you have a mess when you get home. I hope he does ok. Good Luck!
I wish I could help. Worst case is you could board for the night, but hopefully something else will work.
We have a monster-sized dog door, and the dogs have access to a back hall inside for indoor shelter if they need it. They used to be free in the house until they started murdering pillows & stealing food.

My dogs are adults and are crate trained. Young pups can't expected to hold their bladder as long.
In the past, I have hired dog walkers to come during the middle of the day to let them out and play with them.
