TTC After a Loss 6 Months+

Effin' "First Tri FAIL" badges.

"It never occurred to me that someone might think it was about miscarriage."

Someone tell me how the EFF you FAIL first tri and still have a baby?  So while you might not INTEND it to be about that, it's certainly a big flashy reminder for some of us that you have the PRIVILEGE of thinking "First Tri Fail" is eating a friggin' bologna sandwich.

Sometimes I wish we had negative stars.

Re: Effin' "First Tri FAIL" badges.

  • it's just dumb.  I mean, really who cares if they each lunch meat, certainly not me.

  • And also, way to miss the point.

No, I don't think the person who made the badge neccessarily meant anything about miscarriage.

But the fact that many think that's what it's about should give one pause about putting it in their siggy.

It just sais "First Tri FAIL" and they're in joking reference to people who are utter and complete rebels and live on the edge by eating lunch meat, sushi, drinking coffee, and maybe even sipping a beer.  And while those people really ought to be looked up to as ConfusedConfusedConfusedConfused pirates of pregnancy ConfusedConfusedConfusedConfused because like Sarah Palin, they've gone rogue, they fail to see that the only real way to fail first tri is to, you know, fail to complete the purpose of first tri - or keep your baby alive until 13w3d.

So every time *I* see "First tri FAIL" I think of miscarriage and then I get a little crabby because for them failure is eating deli meat while for, you know, a good number of ladies, true first tri failure is a dead baby.  And they say "It never occurred to me."  Of course it didn't, because it hasn't happened.  But I'll bet if it happened, it would occur to you.

  • Snort. I notice that several of the idiots previously boasting that badge :::cough FNT cough::: took it out.

    Classic.

  • There's a big thread up on 3rd about how dumb we are.
  • I just want to twat punch all of them. They can take their rebel behavior and blow it out thier azz.

I think they are more annoyed at the ones saying eating brie is like killing your child.

    And I agree, that's stupid.

But given the idiocy of the comments in that thread, I begin to realize we aren't dealing with anyone smart enough to understand that the REAL objection is not that you ate brie (you effing dope) it's that your badge doesn't make sense. You didn't fail first tri if you are still pregnant. You ate some soft cheese. It does sound like miscarriage. Deal with it.

(Notice it's like three people patting themselves on the back for being clever. Given that I doubt these chicks have ever been mistaken for clever IRL, let them have it)

  • Heh.

I tried to explain one final time on 3rd tri.  They can demonize me all they want.  I'll just run along. . .  but you've got excellent points here.

  • Grr, I thought what you said in the 3rd Tri post was great. That Kelso chick sucks, seriously sucks. I get that they make fun of the people who won't have a sip of coffee or whatever, I do. But the fact that so many people felt it meant a m/c and were hurt by it bugs me. I would take it out of my siggy, not talk about making a 2nd Tri fail or pregnancy fail badge. That is just heartless.

    totally this.

I am 0 for 2 on even getting to 6 weeks, so maybe I should make myself a heartbeat fail badge.  A$$holes.

  • That one got me, too.  Come on, how oblivious are you?

And then to say oh, we're making fun of the people who won't eat lunchmeat or soft cheese because those rules are stupid.  But we're not being stupid, because we steam our lunchmeat and only eat pasteurized cheese.  Uh, dudes, you're following the rules, too.

That would require self-awareness and a sense of irony. I'm betting not so much, with this lot.

  • I've been telling my students for weeks that babies eat your brains.

I think the entire conversation regarding this issue on 1st and 3rd is evidence of that. . .

  • When I first heard of it, my first thought was about a miscarriage, and I thought it was incredibly tactless and insensitive.  Now, I just think the people who use it are douchebags.

  • Good Lord those women are idiots!

They're so busy patting themselves on the back for breaking all the "rules" that they forget they're not exactly trailblazers. The whole "coke-soaked hot dog covered in soft cheese will kill you!" debate has been going on for.ever.

Not to mention it's not even amusing in an ironic winkwink kind of way.

Where's my "Ironic...ur doin it rong" badge??

  • This is up there with the most moronic things I have seen on the bump.  I'm going to rank it with the girl having twins because she got 2 +HPTs a few days apart.

  • The most annoying part is that many of them are totally missing the point that grr made.  Who cares what its intended meaning was.  If one person misinterprets its meaning, then that is the "fail."  When people have to ask what it means, then you know it is time to adjust your freakin' badge.

  • Wow.  Compassion FAIL much?

Those women are a bunch of self-involved LOONIES!  "It means what I SAY it means and that's all it means!!"

I love how they all think I'm het up about it too.  I pointed out something that irritates me.  If they want to see me het up, they should attack one of my girls.  Then they can incur the full wrath of the Grr.

(If they even understand that sentence).

FYI: I always LOVE conversations about connotation and denotation.  We have this in my composition classes every year, and every time I use the Princess Bride line "I do not think that means what you think it means."

    THIS.

When most people think the 'punchline' to your joke is a sick and twisted stab at something profoundly life-altering and painful... maybe it's a case of

    Funny Badge = FAIL!!

  • I'm a little late to the convo, but I totally agree with grr and have ever since I saw the original post about making these badges. I came over here from 3rd tri to let you know, those ladies are MEAN. I go on there to read things for entertainment, but I don't post anymore, because there were never anything but snarky comments.

And yeah, to pat yourself on the back for eating some sushi and making it through 1st tri ... who cares? Pretty insensitve (and stupid) to make up badges about it.

Some women do all they can to keep their babies healthy and it ends up in tragedy all the same. I don't think it's right to go around bragging that YOU took a risk and are proud of it because nothing bad happened.

  • Looks like the badges are coming down or being changed.

I think that's cool.  And worthy of a follow up to say - I think that's cool.

I won't make judgements about the ladies on 3rd tri, because I don't read over there.  I was just irritated by these badges.  I don't want some inter-board war.

(I do feel compelled, if any of them are reading, to point out that my post here was shortly after my first critical post on 1st tri regarding the first tri fail badges, as we've discussed this issue several times before.  I didn't bring new information to this board.  Most people here are/were familiar with it. And the fact is: this is my home board. )
