Any BFers have their LO losing attention during feeding?

This just started but several times during a feeding, my LO will stop eating and look at me and smile. It's the cutest thing ever but he's not eating!

Keira has been doing this too. I am not quite sure why but she seems to be doing it for the last week, feeding her takes forever but how can you be mad at that cute smile?

Happens every time! My LO is incredibly nosy...he thinks he needs to know what's going on at all times, and stops nursing if people are talking in the same room. Cute, but not productive.

Yep, my LO does it too. They start to be more aware of the world around them and have a hard time concentrating on food...it gets worse as they get older and even more nosey.

Oh yea! Been happening for over a month. Most the time he wants to look at me/ watch the TV/ wine/ and who knows what else. Feeding him takes forever!

Yep! Started around 3.5 months. Now it's ridiculous. Pulls off to smile at me, then the dog, then his books, then the ceiling fan . . . it goes on and on and on. It is soooooooo cute though!

Yes! LO starts staring at the ceiling fan, light, pictures on the wall, tv, pulling my hair, shirt.. oh and kicking too. She thinks that's funny as well. Then, sometimes pulls off and then yanks back on like a barricuda, like she just realized that she just unlatched! Cute sometimes, but not so cute other times. lol.

This totally. And she loves to watch her brother do everything so i have to shoo my 4 yr old away when she eats.

OK I have a question for you ladies. I do not post often but I have a problem with my LO nursing and it has been going on for almost a month now. When he eats he will latch beautifully and then not even two seconds later unlatch and cry. I have talked to my lactation consultant and she has no idea why he is doing this. She said my supply was not the issue because it comes out when you squeeze. He gets more frustrated has the session goes on(latch, unlatch, cry) and I try and stay calm, tried different positions, dark room, etc. but nothing is working. He does great during the night, its just during the day he is like this. When he has a screaming fit I can set him up and he is happy again. I know he is hungry because it has been 3+ hours, and I have even tried feeding him early to catch him before he is starving. I am having to feed him formula now because I have used all my stash when he doesnt eat. I am at my wits end but do not want to give up. Anyone know what could possibly be wrong? TIA!

Do you have a really forceful letdown? Sometimes my milk will let down really forcefully after a long gap between feedings, and the sudden gush of milk pisses off my LO. He'll delatch as well.

And just out of curiosity, are you not pumping for every session you're borrowing from your stash? This would hurt your supply in most cases, so that could be the issue as well.

Lucy does this all the time, she either smiles/coos at me and won't eat anymore or she'll turn her head to stare at the ceiling fan.

I've started to 1. close my eyes so she can't make eye contact until she has eaten

and two I make it fairly dim in the room so she focuses , then we play when she's done!

Thank you for replying so quickly. I may have a forceful letdown, but it seems like he likes it better. It seems that if he has to wait on the milk to come he gets frustrated. He just ate about 5 mins and did fairly well. I do pump if I miss a session most times, there has been a couple where I have skipped just to see if he likes it better if I am really full so it comes out faster as opposed to just normally full. I am also taking Fenugreek just incase it is my supply dropping. But I noticed that he did unlatch, look at the TV, my husband and then me and smiled. I take smiles over cries anyday. lol I hope this is a sign it is going to get better.

YES! It's gotten to the point that I can't have the TV on while he's eating because it's too distracting. He's constantly arching his back around and trying to see what's going on, then smiling, then giggling. It's so damn cute.
