Special Needs

Thanks for the OT advice (it's working!)

A while ago I posted about my nearly 3 year old who has a sensory issue with her vestibular system and started OT about 1.5 months ago.  I just wanted to say thank you for your responses to my questions and tell those of you who were kind enough to type out a response that things are going really well for her! It was someone on here that recommended I take her to an OT in the first place for an evaluation and I am so glad I did!

When we started OT, she was extremely fearful around stairs, heights, slides at the playground, etc.  She had NEVER gone up or down stairs without crawling (up) or scooting (down).  Now, she walks EVERY SINGLE TIME.  I am so proud of her!

OT has just been amazing for us!  It is so wonderful to have finally figured out what Kate's "issue" is and be on the right path toward helping her.  She'd been in PT for pretty much her entire life with no real progress, but now that we've figured out this sensory/OT stuff  I can see so much improvement so quickly.

Anyway, thanks :)

  • Glad it is working out for you! My ds OT was the last on our list of therapies that we got our son involved in, because at the time I underestimated it's importance. Boy, was I wrong. OT is all about being able to function in the world and dealing with the everyday things that come with "living." Hello, isn't that our ultimate goal for our kids?

How exciting to hear that OT is working so well. Great job mom!

As an OT it is nice to hear success stories.  We are often the "forgotten therapy"
