Feeling like a failure

I am supposed to be gaining weight like crazy and it isn't happening.  According to my peri & Dr. Luke (which I saw the post below) I should be up about 10 pounds by now.  I have not gained a pound, not one.  I am trying to eat as much as I can and full fat foods but it's hard.

Who knew I would ever complain about NOT being able to gain weightWink

I've just had a really rough morning and my emotions are running on high.Crying

Re: Feeling like a failure

  • Congratulations on your pregnancy!  You aren't a failure at all!  Just try to find things you like to eat and load up.  The first tri is hard but it is a good time to gain weight because you aren't too full feeling ALL the time.  I agree, it is super hard to gain weight.  I drank a lot of protein shakes, ate a lot of quiche and ate a lot of cheese.  I delivered at 29 weeks and am so grateful for stuffing myself even when I was so full.

    Congrats again!  Celebrate this miracle!!

  • I'm only up 4.5 lbs.- 6.5 lbs. depending on which day I weight myself.  I wouldn't worry about it, unless you started out underweight or something.  Just eat good stuff when you are hungry.  I keep hearing that if the babies are measuring on track then you are doing just fine.

  • Don't feel like a failure! Screw Dr. Luke.

I gained 8, yes 8 total lbs with the twins. No matter what I did or how much ensure I drank (2 a day!) I could not gain weight because a) i had horrible morning sickness for the whole time and b) the boys just took more than i could give them. I lost 25 lbs and then put it back and ended up only 8 from my pre-preg weight!

Please do not blame yourself or feel like a failure. my boys were almost 6 lbs each, perfectly healthy, and no NICU.

You are doing GREAT and congrats on your pregnancy!

  • Just eat healthy.  I ended up losing 10 pounds in the third tri (no idea why) but my babies kept growing. They will take what they need and at 10 weeks, they dont need much. I am sure they are doing just fine!

  • I gained 1 lb during my pregnancy. 1. Even though they were early, my LOs were a good size for their gestational age.

  • You are still really really early in your pregnancy.  At 10 weeks, I think I was only up 4lbs!  At this stage, an extra baby really doesn't add very much (your trips vs. my twins)

Don't worry, soon you'll be gaining like crazy!  I made my 20 by 20 with very little effort.  In fact, I was up 23lbs by week 18!  Sometime after week 12 or so, the babies went crazy with growing....

  • Try not to worry, it won't help matters!  I always lost weight during the 1st trimester of pregnancies (including with the twins), but was fine during 2nd and 3rd.  Your body is doing a lot of work right now, but the babies themselves aren't putting on a whole lot of weight yet, so it makes sense that you're not gaining much. I'm sure if you're eating healthy and hearty than you will be fine ; )

  • First of all congrats on your pregnancy!

You are not a failure at all. Some people just gain differently. Also I saw you went through IVF and I don't know about you but I gained around 15lbs during my IVF cycle. Which converted to pregnancy weight. Also I was heavier to start with, I gained 100 lbs the whole pregnancy (that is including the 31 lbs of fluid in the last week due to pre-e), and I came out skinner after I had them then before. Now I still look five months pregnant ion the belly but everyone can tell a huge difference everywhere else. Don't worry... Just drink tons of water and eat healthy.

  • By 10 weeks I had gained 0 lbs.  I put on plenty of weight later on, so I would not worry!  Eat healthy, don't overdo the fatty non-nutritious stuff, and you'll be fine.
