2nd Trimester

Will you be recording LO's birth?

DH and I were talking about buying a new camera to chronicle all of LO's cute and funny moments, blah blah blah... And then he said, "yeah, and we're gonna want to tape the delivery too!" While I want the baby's first moments documented, I definitely DON'T want the camera aimed anywhere near my vag. For that matter, I don't care to catch my screams and curses and facial expressions on camera either. That's just something I'm pretty sure I don't want to relive.?

What are you ladies planning to do? And second (or more) timersm did any of you forgo taping the labor and delivery of your babies and later regret it??

Re: Will you be recording LO's birth?

  • We plan on recording the moments right after.  Not sure how that will pan out.  Maybe from the time I start to crown?!?!  Of course, this is only if everything goes "as planned".

  • My mom taped my birth.  I asked her about it and she said she used to watch it sometimes when I was little.  I've heard part of the audio once and after that I am NOT taping our DD's birth!
  • We are definitely NOT taping the birth, although I did agree to allow DH to tape the first moments when she is place into my arms and things of that nature but definitely not the birth itself.
  • I am thinking about filming a movie birth, a little when I am at the start of the labor...maybe a little fade out action... then end the movie with the baby out and cleaned up.

  • I would never record the whole thing and certainly nothing below the waist.
  • The actual birth - no.

I want him to take pictures/film the baby right after though.

  • We want to record the moment when my MW puts the baby on my chest and my DH tells us what the gender is!  Then DH is going to walk into the waiting room with the camera to tell everyone what the gender is and record their reactions!

No up close and personals for us! LOL

This is what I want too.  Logistically I'm not sure if it will work since the only cameraman in the room is going to be DH, but I would love to capure that moment on video.

  • We just brought a normal camera and took tons of pics.  I did vag with DS, the pics started after he was all the way out.  DD was a c/s and for some reason MH started snapping pics before she was out, so I have lovely pics from my actual surgery.

The pictures were/are more important to me then a recording, that's why we did that.  MH was the only support person in the room for both births and he couldn't have done both.  So no, I have no regrets.

Yea that's what we are trying to figure out now LOL..I think he will have camera in hand, and as soon as the baby comes out, he will start rolling, look at "the parts", and look over to me and say, "It's a.....!" then he will record the baby being placed on me and the moments following.

We will probably split it up a bit too.

I really don't care if the camera is shaky...we want THE MOMENT, not a Hollywood production haha!

We did this, one of the nurses recorded for us.

  • I had a c/s and wasn't allowed video or photographs in the OR.  I'm hoping this time around is different.  Even if I have a repeat c/s I'd like some footage of DD #2 as soon as she's out and her daddy gets to hold her.  If I have a VBAC, I definitely want some labor footage, just no crotch shots.

  • I would love to catch the "it's a boy" or "it's a girl" moment on video.  I wanted to with DS but I think we were so overwhelmed with everything DH didn't get the camera or video camera out.  Hopefully this time we can record that moment.

Check with the hospital too. My hospital does not allow video recording at all, but pictures are allowed. And technically the Dr or nurse can deny to be photographed at any time.

They may take away your choice.

This. Definitely check with your hospital some do have rules about video recordings.

  • You should definitely check with your hospital, most will not allow video recording for liability reasons.

  • How about not at all.  DH can get some pictures after it's all over, preferably several hours later.  He does have an android phone with direct to FB setup, so I would not be surprised if he took pictures or video when he wanted to and they end up online several seconds later.
  • We did not record either and I don't regret it.
  • No. There may be a few pictures, but that's it.
