fluid leaking?

I am worried about how to tell if amniotic fluid is leaking out. My doctor said not to worry unless your going through a whole thick pad in a day, but a health nurse said it doesn't have to be that much. Any one know how to tell or when to worry. I have a doctor who tells me not to worry about anything at all, and I am a worrier, so the mix isn't the greatest!

  • If you are worried, call your doctor ASAP!

  • If I go by his assessment I am fine, I just have to use a liner or two a day and LO's head is right on my bladder so that might be all. My doctor would say it is ok, but I will ask him again.
  • Good question.  I had my bloody show early this morning and I am continuing to have a very watery discharge that is filling up a panty liner.  My nurse said I should be fine and to monitor it, but I am still worried. . .
  • If it keeps coming, then it's probably your water...where a kick to the bladder is usually just one 'gush'.

Your water will also smell 'fresh'.

They can test it pretty easily to see what it is if you are worried.

  • In my situation (with #1), I had just gone pee.  I walked out and then all of sudden I was wet.  Not a huge gush- but my light pad was SOAKED and my pants were wet.  It kept happening.  By the time I got over there, they didn't have enough to test, so they sent me home.  The next morning I came back and while she was examining me I felt another leak which tested positive.  Mine was such a small leak- it was really hard to tell without the testing.
