That's awesome to hear! We are seriously considering moving there - it's on the top of our list. I've done a little research but I know I'll have more questions later on. I think we are going to plan a trip down there next year to get a feel for it.
DH worked for a large biotech company in San Diego before he started on his PhD and they have a branch in RTP - it is one option for him to possibly go back to work for that company - but I think he's planning on applying to several other biotech companies in RTP. There are a TON there.
From the little research we've done, it looks like the cost of living is still pretty reasonable in the Cary, Durham and Morrisville areas. Do any of these areas stand out to you? Are there any other areas you would recommend (we want to look into areas where the cost of living is still pretty low so I would be able to SAH).
Thanks for your help - I'm sure I'll have more questions later!
I rented the entire time I was there, but for the most part, yes- cost of living is similar to here (except you pay state income taxes).
Cary . Filled w/ young professional and growing families.
Durham- Be careful. There are DEFINITELY some great areas, but there are also some that are a big dodgy. You don't have to work hard to find the good spots, but be aware of the schools and the zoning for them.
Morrisville- I know nothing about it. That town has grown exponentally since we moved from there. One of our friends (and his wife) live there and like it.
