I was reading a post on my local forum and someone commented this to be their cost - I was under the impression I was billed under a "global OB" fee and things like this would be included in a my deductable and then my 80/20. Do most plans not include an epi in what's considered normal labor or a global package and charge you separately? If so, wouldn't I just be paying 20% of it (Maybe it does cost 10k and that's why she paid 2k, but that seems HIGH to me).
Insights would be great? Insurance just confuses the heck out of me!
Re: Did your epidural cost you 2k out of pocket?
The global OB fee is for all of your office visits and the OB part of delivery. The hospital will send a separate bill for your room, medications ect. The anesthesiologist will send another bill for his services.
My insurance covers epidurals and if I had to pay cash it would be $1,000.
Every insurance plan is so different. I don't think any of us can answer this for you - you're better off to call your Health Insurance Provider.
But no, I did not have to pay that much. I ended up owing the anesthesiologist $135 or something
$1500 that you paid, or $1500 total cost of procedure?
Bar tab = $156,000, Bus to Foxwoods = $0, Puking in the Stanley Cup = Priceless
My insurance covered the cost for everything. But the anesthesia bill was separate from the OB bill.
It really depends on how your insurance works and what they will/will not cover.
