When does this get fun?

We're nine weeks pregnant, and I'm miserable!  I don't feel pregnant.  I just feel sick...ALL the time.  You know what I'm talking about:  heartburn, food aversions, hemorrhoids (!!!), fatigue, exhaustion, sleepless nights...  Plus, I'm worried that I'll miscarry.  It took us a year to get pregnant and now I'm scared something's going to happen to our baby (and I'm worried it'll be my fault because I canNOT eat good foods right now!).

Anyway, when does this start to be fun?  When do I *feel* pregnant and actually start to look forward to this with hope rather than fear (and nausea)?

(Please excuse if I'm ranty.  I'm sooo tired but I cannot sleep and haven't had a full night's sleep in weeks.)

Re: When does this get fun?

  • "Fun" isn't really a word that I would use to describe any part of my pregnancy, but for me (without any struggles with infertility or loss, thank God), each appointment that I could check off the list brought more hope and excitement. I was a nervous wreck at my first appt and throughout the first trimester, but each time I heard the dr say that everything looked great, I started beaming just a little bit more. Hang in there.

And do NOT worry about what you're eating right now if you're sick - the baby is getting what it needs from you and you are the one suffering, not the little one. Trust me. I was craaaaazy sick the first 20-some-odd weeks of pregnancy and lost 20 lbs in that time because I would go days unable to keep even water down. Camy came out at a healthy 8lbs 3oz and pretty much perfect in every way. :) Eat when and what you can and trust that all is going as it should.

Unfortunately, for a lot of people, this is what pregnancy feels like.  I certainly felt a lot of those things at 9 weeks... they started to subside at around 10 weeks and now I feel much better.

Plus, I'm worried that I'll miscarry.  It took us a year to get pregnant and now I'm scared something's going to happen to our baby (and I'm worried it'll be my fault because I canNOT eat good foods right now!).

I don't know if this ever goes away.  I still have my freak out moments, but they are less frequent these days.  I've heard that when we start to feel the baby in our bellys that it helps a lot.  You won't harm your baby by eating unhealthy food.  When you are able to, you will eat healthy.  Until then, do the best you can.  I lived on Taco Bueno and cheez-its for about a week around 8 weeks.  So, if my kid comes out orange, I'll let you know.

These days, the sleepless nights are the hardest for me.  I usually wake up at around 2:30 and don't fall back asleep until 5:30... and have to get up at 6.  And thats on one of the better nights.  The bad nights I wake up at 11 and fall asleep at 1, then wake again at 2:30.

Have you talked to your doctor about your insomnia?  I had to start taking naps during the day at work on my lunch breaks and it helped a lot.

I hope you feel better soon and I hope that you can find a way to feel peaceful about your baby.  I have no advice on how to do that as I am fighting off the crazies myself, frequently.

  • OH Kim... I wish I could make you feel better.  If you need me to watch W so you can get some rest, I am completely and 100% willing... I know how much I appreciated that offer from friends in the beginning and you know I am just down the road.  Please take me up on it- the boys would love to play.

In regard to feeling better, it does happen.  Each pg, I thought I would NEVER feel better but I always do.  Just eat what sounds appealing (dry cereal is always my choice early on) and eat often so you feel less sick.  Sit on the boppy and put a Tucks pad in your panties (and yes, leave it there).  The fatigue and bad sleep just sucks.  Thank goodness for my DVR during the middle of the night. Take one Tylenol PM or a Benedryl (which can also help with the nausea a bit) before bed. Hang in there and try to just take it day by day.  I'm thinking and praying for you.

    And, let me help!
