My super extroverted and social daughter has just become the clingiest toddler ever. She'll dig her nails into my thighs as she clings to my legs more and more. She is ALL about me - DH can't even give her a bath or put her to bed without her FREAKING out. She's constantly saying "mommy-mommy-mommy-mommy-mommy!" with this terrified look on her face when DH asks if he can hold her. She does the same thing if/when others try to hold her. Sometimes she'll let them hold her for a bit, but she's soon pushing their hands away chanting "mommy-mommy-mommy" as she wrenches her face into the BIGGEST frown and chokes back tears.
It makes me feel horrible and to add to my guilt, this is going to be the first weekend I've ever left her alone (gulp!). I don't feel too horrible though when she does it to MIL ![]()
DH and I have tried to figure out what has changed in the last several days to make her act this way, but we're at a loss. I did just wean her, but that was about 2 weeks ago, though I guess it could be a delayed reaction to that. The weaning went well though, with little to no protest from her.
Anyone else experience something similar?
Re: suddenly SUPER clingy at 18 months?
That happened to us too. That's about the time H started to wean himself (I left it up to him and it took him about 2 months to finish).
I felt so horrible for hubby b/c he was traveling and when he'd come home H would just be all Mama mama mama!
I think it took us a few months for it to be over, but we're all good now.
It'll pass, just keep your chin up
this is what i was going to say.
