Need picture wardrobe advice

For my mom's Christmas present last year, DH and I paid for a photoshoot for my whole family (10 people including my siblings, spouses, and kids). (The photographer is a family friend and agreed to wait until the Spring until the weather warmed up so we could do an outdoors shoot.) We're gearing up to have the pics taken next week and we need to decide what to have the family wear for it.  Any suggestions? Solid shirts and khakis? Jeans and black shirts?

  • Our photographer always recommends solids colors, no patterns. I think the color actually depends on everyones skin type. I would stick with something everyone has. We are Italian in background with darker skingand did white shirts with jeans. It came out great. I have also done brown shirts with tan pants for a fall shoot that looked good.

  • I love those big ole family portraits where everyone either has all khaki pants or all jeans on.  Than each family unit like (you, DH, and DS are one unit and than say your brother, his wife, and thier children are another unit) wear a seperate color.  You all could pick either jewel tones or pastel colored shirts that way it melts together.  I love this b/c each unit has it's own distinct look but it perfectly mixes into a great family photo.

  • My cousin and her family did one last year that turned out really, really nice.  They all wore black with white accents - the girls all had black dresses with either white buttons, white polka dots, white piping, etc. and the guys wore black dress pants/shirt with white ties.  They had them taken in their backyard which has farmland behind it.  It looked like the pictures might have been taken in the evening because they look soft and warm in color, if that makes sense.  The pictures are amazing!
  • we did khaki pants and blue polos for our large family picture.  The men all wore dark blue polos and the women wore light blue polos.  We have 3 kids in the family so DD wear a dress from Carters that was dark blue and light blue and the boys wore polos that had all the colors in them.
