  • i obviously don't have much experience but my lo just spit up today for the first time.  he hasn't vomited yet.   but one of my friends said that her lo used to spit up all the time.
  • 1. When we breastfed, DD spit up all the time. Since she wasn't overly fussy, the pedi said spit up was fine.

    2. DD only got sick once. She vomited twice in one day. She was so scared by the experience and I cried hysterically. We called the pedi and they had us closely monitor her.

  • 1. LO used to spit up during and after almost every feeding, now it is only once in awhile

    2. Yes she used to, still does if she gets way active after eating.

She was eventually diagnosed with reflux which is what caused the excessive spit ups  and projective vomiting.

  • DD spits up sometimes. It seems to come in waves. She'll go weeks with nothing and then spit up a few times in a day and possibly the next couple.  When she was exclusively breast fed and a lot younger, she would spit up and it would come out her nose. She didn't seem to care. It scared me though.
  • SO what I am getting out of these responses is... don't worry but tell pedi when I go in on thurs. Is that what you would do?

I let my pedi know and he called her a "Happy Spitter".  She's not fussy when she spits up and her digestive system is still developing.  She spits up after almost each feeding.  Lots of laundry for me!

  • 1. rarely, like 1-2 times/week.

    2. she just did this like an hour ago for the first time, but I think it's related to the cold she has.  I think she got some snotty fluid caught in her throat. Gross!

  • 1. ALL. THE. TIME. For the entirety of Owen's life, we have all been consumed with spit up.

     2. Yes, but it has only happened a few times. Rarely.

Owen was diagnosed with reflux when he was about 8 weeks old. He was not only spitting up (which can be normal) but he was in pain from it. One cause of excessive spit up in a breasted baby is overactive letdown. You can read up on it  at Kellymom.com and the La Leche Leaque website. Another cause is foremilk/hindmilk imbalance.

    Good Luck :)

Yes. Just keep an eye on her so you can tell your pedi how much & how often. There's such a range of spitter uppers. DD spit up a grand total of twice as an infant and DS spits up a few times a day. I'll be standing in the kitchen w/ him and suddenly hear a big splat on the ground. Ewww.
