When DH is gone...

How do you remind your LO('s) of your DH when he's gone for training/ deployment? My DH will be leaving for a month of training when little one is between a few weeks and a week old (depending on when she decides to make her appearance.) DH is terrified that she's going to "forget" him and have stranger anxiety with him when he gets back. What are some things I can do to ease his mind?

    videos are fantastic especially that young because the voice is what will be the highest point of recognition and maybe put a t-shirt near her whenever she is awake (if you are uncomfortable with loose items in the crib otherwise having it to sleep with is great also).  videos work great later as well my godsons dad is on deployment currently and he is  16 mo old and his face just lights up seeing daddy on the screen it can be difficult for you as well though because then he walks around asking for daddy and the first couple of time he tried giving daddy a new book to read to him but it is nice to have it there for them.  videos of your LO for daddy are great too because it helps capture things that he may not be there specifically for.  HTH

    My husband will be home for leave sometime next week, and then have to go back to Iraq for 2 months to finish his deployment.  He will get to spend a week or so with our new baby if things go smoothly.   Before he leaves, I plan to go to Hallmark to buy one of those recordable story books and have him read it.  I will play it for her once a day, just so she can continue hearing his voice.  We are also going to continue to Skype daily, only I will be putting his voice on the speakers instead of the headset so she can hear him talking that way too.  That's really all I have come up with so far.

    We don't have a LO yet but we have used the web cam when DH goes for training in a place that has access to an Internet connection. He takes his laptop and I used our desktop. It was nice for me to get to see him while we talked.

    When he was on the ship and couldn't use the web cam he would send me little video clips of himself.

    Skype has been great for us, and we also use pictures and phone calls when we can.
