all i can find online is warm baths and bed rest. has anyone seen a chiropractor for this? acupuncture? i can't get much done. of course this would kick in as soon as i got my energy back!!!! lol
One of the nurses at the office said we could try physical therapy, but my thought was, if it's because the baby is resting on the nerve, I don't know how therapy is going to keep her from someplace she finds comfortable. But that's probably because mine isn't constant. So talk to your office about the option of PT.
i actually read that it's not the baby itself resting on the nerve but causing inflamation to it somehow by the body changes to discs in your spine. either way it sucks. lol
My friend got sciatica pretty early - sometime in her 1st tri. She got acupuncture and didn't have any pain after that. I think she had the baby yesterday!
I just posted about this a few weeks ago. I had it with my 1st pregnancy but was still able to walk and it wasn't constant. It started again with this pregnancy a few weeks ago and again wasn't so bad.... Until Friday. I got out of bed and could hardly stand up straight. It continued through the weekend.I was practically in tears, not even from the pain but just because it was so frustrating! I used a heating pad 3 times on Sunday for 45 minutes at a time and that defintely helped. I also took a bath on Saturday night which also helped a little. My plan was to call my OB after the weekend (yesterday) and look into PT or a chiropractor. But I woke up yesterday morning and it was GONE... Completely gone. I was so relieved.
I was talking to another Mom at the Mommy and Me class that I go to and she said she had it really bad with her 2nd pregnancy too. She saw a chiropractor and said it didn't help. But she said she used a heating pad and a cream called Bioflex (similar to Bengay but safe during pregnancy). So I would go get that and definitely the heating pad.
Sorry for the long post.. I hope you start to get some relief soon. Let us know what works for you.

I've had sciatic pain in my left leg and lower back for about 3 years now. It was awful in the beginning (I had a kid jump on my back while I was laying on the floor!) I went to the chiro and it made a HUGE difference. They did the decompression and that really helped.
I would advise going to a chiro if you can afford it. Heat packs help relax the muscles (the pain comes from the muscles tightening and putting pressure on your nerve).
Also, exercises that strengthen the lower back help, normally I would do the superman (on your stomach) but pregnancy kinda prevents that. Another I do, is stand against a wall, as close to the wall as you can get. Make sure your heels and your head are against the wall too. Then bend at the knee, you should feel your lower back engaging. I find that the exercises combined with the heat pack can help a lot. Sucks that aleve is a no no while pregnant, that helps a ton!
If you cross the ankle, of the affected side, over the opposite knee and lean forward slightly, it will help to stretch the area and ease some of the pressure. I've suffered sciatic pain for the better part of my life and have always found this to be helpful. GL
Two things 1) ICE, not heat. Heat tells the muscle to get angry and inflamed, which only presses MORE on the sciatic nerve, causing more pain!
2) Go to a chiropractor. I started seeing on a few weeks ago for this very reason and holy CRAP do I feel better. My neck doesn't hurt, my hips are better, the sciatica is pretty much gone (unless I totally overdo it) and I'm sleeping.
If your benefits cover it, find one!
This EXACTLY! But you have to give the chiropractor some time to help. It took about 3 visits before I noticed any significant difference. Now it is still present but much more manageable.
Re: sciatic pain treatment?? pleeeez

Hope you find relief!
I "googled" some floor exercises and found that certain stretches helped a little bit. I also find Prenatal Yoga has been working for me.
Good luck!
