  • It's fun! DH and I took the kids last summer! But we parked off of Main St. in Grapevine and took the tarantula train to the stock yards. It's primarily a place that has different shops, restaurants, shows, rodeo, etc. It used to be a place that livestock was kept at or something or another. We only got to eat and shop a bit. The most exciting part was probably the train.

  • Same here. I was born and raised right here except for a few years in the middle and have never been!

  • It's the area just north of downtown Fort Worth where there livestock used to be bought and sold in the days of the old west. Like pp said, you can take the train there from Grapevine or just drive there directly. It's a great place to shop and eat and people watch. I think they still do a daily cattle drive (just for show, of course) and have rodeo events and whatnot that you can go see. My favorite thing to do is go eat at Love Shack (mmm...I really want a dirty love burger now after typing this).

  • The train is good, but beware that you may have travel issues on it.  When my DH, his aunt and I went, it took 1 1/2 hours LONGER than it was scheduled to get there because of train traffic.  The Grapevine train is low priority and has to wait for other trains in the area.  It may not be a good situation for kids that can't sit still FOREVER!!  Smile
  • If you are going to be in that area, you should just forget the stockyards and go to Joe T's. ;)

  • Western shops, places to eat, bars.  Cattle drive daily (at noon I think?).  Its awesome :)

  • I can't wait until DS is old enough to appreciate stuff like that.  I haven't been to the Stockyards since I was a kid!

  • We go pretty often actually, daily cattle drive at 11am and 4pm and we walk on the north side and check out the cattle and take pics up close and personal, lol.  Oh and Joe T's is a must (and so is calling me when you are going so we can meet up)
  • Its definitely worth the trip! Go now before it gets too hot.
