pls help - monitor issues....

I'm on night 2 of bad/very little sleep b/c of our monitor recently (it's like having a newborn again!).  We have the angel monitor and we have not used the sensor pad for several months now.  Just the other night, our hand units started making this static-y popping sound every few seconds.  And then every now and then you get a electronic buzz along with that sound.  I've tried each of the 8 channels that we have, switched units from their bases, moved the nursery unit to a different spot, etc. Even when you turn the units down, the popping is loud enough to wake me up.

I even called the customer service line and they could not suggest anything that I had not already tried.  They think someone else in the neighborhood installed something that is interfering with it and since it's an analog monitor, that can happen.  If that was the case though, I would think changing the channel would help.  They were pretty unsympathetic and offered to SELL me new parts at $69 or so that would not guaranty that it would be fixed.  Jerks.

I SO don't want to purchase a new monitor - but we might have to.  Any suggestions on trouble shooting that I'm not thinking of?

  • I notice more static if my cell phone is near the handhelds.  We also had it by the bed and I noticed more static whenever I moved in bed.  Now it's across the room and very rarely have static.  If there is any changing the channel usually works.

No suggestions, just commiseration.  We have been through 2 Summer Videos, an Angelcare, a Graco, and an off brand sound monitor.  They all crapped out and started with the static that would keep us up at night.  We just switched to security cameras with handheld screens and so far, they are awesome.  But I have no doubt they will start acting up at some point.

The good news is that if you just want sound, those monitors are less expensive.  The $20 off brand we bought at Target worked just as well and as long as the others.

  • Hmmm...our video monitor has had static problems the last two nights as well. Maybe some solar flares or something in the atmosphere messing with them??

I have no suggestions. Only commiseration.

    Dear Bump: You suck.
  • We're having the same exact issues! It started two nights ago too...weird! I have a Fisher-Price Private Connection monitor...tried everything you did and I'm going out to buy a new one tonight :(
  • Ugh, sorry I don't have any other suggestions.  We stopped using the Angelcare when we took the sensor out and switched over to our Summer video monitor.  However, we get some bad static sometimes (I think it may be our wireless interference?)

  • yikes.  ok.

I'm going to try to tough it out for a few more days.  We're going to Houston for a while and I want to see if it happens there before I replace the thing.  It majorly sucks b/c that monitor is really expensive and it was such great peace of mind when DD was young - I fully expected to use it again with another kiddo one day.  crap.
