2nd Trimester

Holy Charley Horse, Batman!!

YOWZA!! I had heard about charley horses and leg cramps being a part of the pregnancy party, but had yet to experience one...until last night! HOLY HECK...at 2am, one hit me so hard it sprang me out of bed, and I ended up hopping around the bedroom like an idiot trying to stretch it out. Both DH and our puppy were looking at me like I was nuts! It hurt like crazy!!!

I'm hoping these dont' become a regular occurrence!

  • I have one word for you...BANANA'S!!! ha-ha i hate those cramps!
  • Loading the player...
  • when you start to feel it, flatten your foot, don't point it.  it will stop it almost immediately.
  • Ditto on the bananas. I have to eat one every day. I just had my first pregnancy one over night too. Walked it out but super annoying.
  • OK, bananas it is! Thanks for the tip; I guess the postassium in it helps?

I can still feel the ache in my calf...yeeks!

  • It's time like these I pop my belly and say "Bad baby, bad Baby"  Wink

I've been having cramping in the bottom of my foot.  It sucks, hope you can avoid this in the future.  A helpful hint that I use when my plantar faciitis flares up.  Sit down with your feet in front of you, take a towel and wind it up like you're going to snap someone with it.  Hold each end in one hand and put the bottom of the "U" under the ball of your foot and use the towel to pull your toes back towards you.  You can do this in bed before you go to sleep or when you wake up in pain.

  • Ahh I know what you mean!  I've had two in the past week and they are SHOCKING!  Mine went away after a minute or so of bending my foot back (not pointing, as the other poster said!) as far as I could.  But then my calf muscle was sore for like three days!

Let's hope that the banana trick works Smile

  • I've had too since being pg. One was this past Saturday morning, OMG it hurt so bad. It hurt to touch and hurt to walk. I just jumped around until it felt better. My leg muscles have felt tight since then.

    *takes big bite of banana...YUM*

  • I got one about 3 AM...man it hurt! I had them all the time with our first baby too :)
  • I'll give you an amen on that!.  I woke up last night with a charlie horse too.  I've tried to increase my potassium and calcium, but to no avail.
  • I have heard it is an inbalance of both calcium and potassium.  I get several a night at times, and yeah, they blow!

I have been trying to eat a banana and glass of milk/yoghurt in the evenings, and that "seems" to help (however those chip cravings are killing me, and I doubt the salt in them is helping with the cramps!)
