Open to any AP sleep advice

Maybe it's just my memory but I don't remember DD's sleep being this wacked.  I have patience and am of course will to wait and work with DS, but I get the feeilng his nightime sleep patterns are atypical

We start his routing at 7pm...oil massage, bath, lotion massage, book, song, nurse, sleep.

He sleep until 9ish

Last night he woke up

9:13

11:02

11:45

12:31

1:54

2:37

4:05

4:46

5:38

6:10

(then I handed him off to DH, so I don't know what time he woke pu)

Given to me to nurse at 8:00 (DH gets ready for work)

Up for good at 8:49

Any thoughts?  He's 5 months old this week.  I am NOT open to CIO.  I am open to a spa weekend at Canyon Ranch.

Re: Open to any AP sleep advice

  • Oh, Brahim, bless your heart! That's how DS "sleeps" when we try to put him in his crib. I have no advice, but I will make a contribution to your spa weekend.

  • Sammy went through the same thing around 5.5 months.  THat was when I transitioned him to his crib.  He started sleeping like a DREAM at that point.
  • Darcey

The crib was the answer for you? I suppose it's worth a shot...we do have one :)

  • Have you tried co-sleeping?  Ben was up every 60-90 minutes for the first six weeks until we discovered that he'd sleep in 6-8 hour stretches if we put him in bed with us.  It saved my sanity.  GL!
  • I feel your pain. My little man has been sleeping like crap too. He wakes up every half hour in his crib for some reason...

I've resorted to bringing him into bed with in the spare bed. We both get some sleep this way.

  • we do co-sleep.  I offer him the breast as my first line of sleep defence..Not working!!!
  • Pacifier!! That is crazy. I still swaddle. Do you BF every time he wakes up? Maybe cut off instant boob access and he'll stop waking as often?

  • he won't take a pacifier (and i have quite a cvollection) and we can't swaddle for a medical reason!

maybe i'll try no nursing unless he seems really hungry...

  • We can't co-sleep well.  DD wakes up so much more when we co-sleep.  Its like she knows she has unlimited acess to BFing.  I'd say since your first line of defense is BFing that may be the problem.  I'd give the crib a shot.  You could try co-sleeping and a pacifier...however, we haven't found success with it.  DD will take a pacifier when she's not co-sleeping.  But if we're co-sleeping and she stirs and I try to give it to her, she will refuse it from me.  Like I said, she knows there's unlimited BFing!!

If you don't want to give up co-sleeping completely, you could try part of the night in the crib and co-sleep the other part of the night.  That way it gives you a break and you can get at least some sleep.

  • Will he sleep in his crib at all? Or a co-sleeper thing so he's not smelling boobs all night? DD is in a minicrib in my room still, so she's right there, but she's not in the bed with me. And I've not tried it, but what about one of those white noise machines?

I could not imagine the hell my life would be if she refused a pacifier.

  • I'm at the edge of getting a night nanny, which I DON"T want to do...I know he is my responsibility at night but i have to drive during the day and it's getting hard

I think I slept when DD slept during the day so I was getting sleep.  I can't sleep during the day becuase DD needs to be attended to...

  • have you read The No Cry Sleep Solution?  I think it would work well for you guys.

we went through that period of time too and TNCSS helped us out a bunch.  we got him sleeping without having to suck.  we use a 'key phrase', and we try to wait a few seconds if he's just talking/fussing b/c he sleeptalks a lot and we were waking him up when we tried to soothe him.

now he goes to bed between 7-8, wakes at 2 and 4 to eat, and then sleeps until DH gets him up for daycare around 6:45.

we don't co-sleep so i can't offer any advice there.  Good Luck!

  • I just read the no-cry sleep solution.  She co-slept and used it, which I find wild!

I guess I'll have to re-read it again and try to take more out of it!

  • I also have to say that moving to the crib worked for us too. I was trying to nurse her a lot when she was in the bed and I think I ended up completely waking her up when she was just stirring. She still co-sleeps from 5 or 6 in the morning until we get up at 7 so I don't miss my snuggle time.
