Toddler Boys Shoes

I think we officially have a walker! :) And we're in some serious need of new shoes. What kind of soles should I be looking for? I know they need to be flexible, but do they need to be the very thin soles like Robeez or can I do something a little more substantial? I really don't want to spend $35 on a pair of shoes that he's going to destroy in a few weeks because the soles are so flimsy.

Anyone have any recommendations for shoes? I know the popular brands, but I'm wondering about specific shoes.

Thanks!

Re: Toddler Boys Shoes

  • Once J really started walking, we bought him regular, hard soled shoes. The 2 brands we have purchased for him are Stride Rite and See Kai Run.  We had a pair of pedipeds, but I felt like the soles were too thin for him to walk on once he really started walking.

  • I just bought Alessandra her first pair of shoes yesterday. Robeez don't have thick enough soles to protect their feet really, and the guy at Sandy's said that the hot concrete will definitely burn their feet through a sole like that. I bought her a pair of See Kai Runs. They cost $40, which was hard to swallow. He told me she'd probably get abou 3 months wear out of them before they're too small, so I'm thinking she won't have time to destroy them, and I could either sell them on CL or at a resale shop. They have rubber soles, but they are very flexible, so they're still considered a "soft-soled" shoe. They had a few other brands that are made for early walkers, and I didn't really compare price, so there may be something cheaper.

  • MIL has been buying DS shoes for a while. He has several pair of addidas and Nike's but my favorite are a pair I bought from Target and some Vans. The key is to find a hard sole but too hard and/or thick. I liked the ones from Target and Vans because they have a thinner sole so he isn't tripping over his shoes all the time.
  • Once we graduated from robeeze, we got a pair of pedoodles (tidal waves) and then a pair of see kai run (grayson). Both of those fit the shape of his foot and did not cut into the area below his ankle (which most left deep red marks after only a lap around the store).

The are both really flexible and great for learning to walk. I have horrible feet and I wanted to be sure we didn't even remotely bugger up his feet.

Baby bugaboo (5-10 mins south of bartoncreek mall) carried them when we bought them, I'd call and see if they still do)

Noprdtrom at Bartoncreek mall always seems to have sales on shoes and that's were we usually get our see kai runs. At the very least, you can go and try them on and see what size you need then spend a few minutes googling online and you can usually find a good price on them. They also often pop up on the baby/kid sale sites.

  • We have Stride Rite and See Kai Run and like them both. See Kai Run does great sales on their web site and periodically they also run free shipping specials. I don't think I've ever paid more than $20 for a pair of their shoes. The Stride Rite outlet also does buy one/get one 50% off sales, but I think they just finished one up.

  • I bought Austin the soled Stride Rite little tennis shoes as his first pair of walking shoes. He did great in them. I bought them at the stride rite outlet in RR and only spent I think $20. on them.
