My MIL and FIL have a dog that they rescued when my DH was a freshman in highschool (or somewhere close to there) and although the dog is completely wacky I LOVE HIM. He is calm, docile, loving, and he even danced.
On thursday my MIL took him to the vet to get checked out because he had been itching his ears a lot. They used a scalpel to scratch off a "scab" and he started bleeding profusely... shook and got blood all over my MIL and the vet. They wrapped his head up and sent him home. my MIL said she kinda felt like the girl sliced him with the scalpel. When he got home he shook and the giant bandage (that looked like a hat) came off. He got blood all over their hallway and doors upstairs. My MIL took to Med-Vet (an emergency vet place) and they checked it out and said that there was nothing to cauterize because it only bled when he shook. So, they wrapped him up really good and said to leave the bandage on till monday. So poor Mikey moped around for 4 days with a big tight bandage on his head. (see below)
Yesterday they took him to the vet to have it removed and would still bleed so they said that they had to keep him overnight and were going to stitch it up.
This morning they got a call that when they got in the office this morning he was dead in his cage. im devastated.
WHY IF YOU HAVE TO KEEP THE DOG OVERNIGHT DOES NOONE STAY THERE WITH HIM?! IF HE WAS AT HOME HE WOULD HAVE HAD SOMEONE WATCHING HIM!!!!!!
They are doing an autopsy to see what happened. They said that maybe his cancer (they removed a skin cancer lesion off his head last summer and said it was gone) was worse than they thought. I think they killed him and I am NEVER going to that vet again.
I feel terrible that he had to die alone (and away from home because he HATES leaving his house).
Re: Sad about a furbaby
Oh my gosh!!! That is so awful, it made me cry...that poor dog, I would be so devastated!! I think it's a little odd that they wanted to keep him overnight just to stitch him up.
Can you request to have the autopsy done somewhere else?
I am so so sorry, that is just horrible!

Cute dog.
TI, IUIs, IVF = c/ps and BFNs
OMG!! That vet had better figure out an explanation and FAST!!! I can't imagine he was not checked on ALL night. That seems unlikely or completely negligent. It could have happened really fast (and for the pups sake, I hope so) but nonetheless that is devastating!!!
I'm so sorry, I would be a complete mess and would have a real hard time trusting that vet again too.

I can't wait for the "im getting a divorce" post in 5 years or so because your husbands were fed up with your disgusting chair asses from playing on the knot all day and getting fired 4-5 times for not doing any work. you guys are all winners!! ~ Laur929

Oh No, that is heart-breaking, your poor doggie.

I would be so angry I am not sure what I would do. This story has really made me think that I need to be careful when getting Potter (my dog) vet care. I guess I have taken my vet and his health for granted. I am so greatful that we have had no issues.
My thoughts and prayers are with you family..
Blythe Elizabeth is here March 27,2012
Oh my! That is awful, I am tearing up as I type. I can't imagine not being there for my puppy when he passes.
Please tell me what vet since I'm in the area too.
