Do I really need to buy nursing tanks/tops? This is my first and wonder if I really need the special tops made for nursing or will my regular clothes work fine? What do you do?
They are definitely not a necessity. What I usually do is just wear a regular tank top underneath a regular shirt. When it's time to nurse I pull the shirt up, and the tank top down. That way I'm still all covered, and don't have to buy special clothes (I do have nursing bras though).
For sleep I did get a Bravado nursing tank and I really like it. I prefer not to wear a bra while sleeping, but still needed something to put my nursing pads in. It's very comfortable
I love Target's nursing tanks! I usually wear them under my shirts instead of bras. Then I can wear a regular shirt over it, and when I pull my shirt up to nurse, the tank covers my belly.
I don't have any shirts specifically designed for nursing, but I sometimes wear shirts that button up the front, and I have to admit that it's really convenient!
I love Glamourmom nursing tanks (they have built-in light bras), that's pretty much all I wear. I highly recommend buying one before you deliver. My DS was pretty messy nursing for quite a while and it was too hard to keep a nursing bra and shirt out of his way and dry.
I got tanktops from Undercovermama that attach to any nursing bra (or really any bra, so I'd wear them after nursing) - they are really long and fairly light, so okay for summer. The Target/Walmart ones are too short on me and show my belly. I ordered two of the undercovermama ones, and I'm going to order at least two more. Then I don't need special shirts at all.
I did order a couple of regular wrap-style tops from Walmart (long-sleeved) and they were the best for nursing because they pulled aside easily. My mom got some some of the double-layers ones, and they are a PITA.
