    Thanks for paging me.  I guess I'll just ask my original question which was - what made them test for CMV?

    Her hearing loss that started out unilateral and progressed to bilateral was a big red flag.  Then once they had the MRI that made the connection a little stronger.  There happens to be a study going on at the U of M on hearing loss and CMV so there was an "easy" opportunity to have her blood spot tested.
