Would you take your toddler to swim class if...

Nathan came down with a chest cold on Saurday. He has somewhat of a runny nose and an occasional cough but is otherwise in good spirits. No fever and great appetite. We skipped swim lessons today (Monday) and of course he keeps asking me when we are going "to swim in the water:-)" Would you take him on Wednesday? I don't think he'll be contagious by then, the pool is heated to 92 degrees so it's like bath water and it's a private facility, so it's not teaming with people.

  • Besides playing it by ear, I am leaning towards, yes.

I would also make sure that he was completely dry and warm when you left.

  • If there are other kids there, I would probably give it a few more days just to make sure it doesn't spread.  Court has that same thing and it's lasted almost a week so far (I think he picked it up at a birthday party).  I skipped Mom and Baby last week because of it, and I'm hoping he wakes up tomorrow with no symptoms, but it's looking like we're staying home from class tomorrow too.
  • Yeah I would say its ok!  Daycares will allow kids to come with a clear runny nose and a cough.   Dh just went to the dr today for a chest cold he has had since thurs and the Dr said he isn't contagious and can head back to work.  There is tons of clorine in the water I'm assuming so and if he feels good then it probably would be good for him!

  • Thanks for the advice. I think the chlorine would kill any germs if he has any to share. I guess I'll see how he's feeling Wed morning, and go from there!
  • Our swim instructor always encouraged us to bring the kids to class for colds/runny noses/congestion saying the humidity in the pool helps clear them up. Also, the chemicals/salt water kills any germs so they're not really contagious. I say go on Weds as long as there is no fever and he's feeling up to it!

  • Yes, IF diarrhea does not come after the cold.  M and I just got over a nasty, nasty cold and that was the last part of it.  But I think thats a given anyway.
