Canadian Ladies - ? for you

This may sound strange and I honestly don't want to offend anyone.

My SIL is moving to Edmonton, Alberta for school (PhD program). She is leaving at then end of July. MIL and I want to throw a party for her, since she won't be traveling back to see family much since it's so far from us. Anyway, we think we'd like to have a "Canadian" party. We want to take all of the stereotypical ideas about Canada and have them at the party. We're thinking flag, hockey, outdoors ... We're thinking lots of red and white, lots of maple leaves, "hockey puck" brownies - just cut out with a circular cookie cutter, etc.

Is there anything "typically Canadian" that we could have at the party?? It's meant to be a spoof, kind of tongue in cheek so ...

What do you think of as Typically Canadian?

By the way, I'd love to hear what you'd think about a Typically American Party too (we're thinking about doing this during Independence Day weekend) so we've thought about combining the two. What do you (as Canadians) think of as typically American??

  • Any chance you watched the olympic opening/closing ceremonies? just steal idea from those! I am canadian (actually lived in Edmonton for a bit) - if you do hockey pucks you should put "oilers" on them. Also, anything to do with moose, beavers, loonies/toonies etc. lot's of "eh's" - all the things that I am constantly made fun of. If you would like some fun canadian music be sure to download some great big sea songs. really upbeat and fun.

  • Serve poutin! Super easy to make, and it is very Canadian.

It's just french fries topped with cheese (usually cheese curds but shredded will do) and gravy.

  • Make Nanaimo bars too

    yum yum
