Question about practices with multiple doctors

My OB practice has 13 doctors. I started with a woman who I didn't really like. She is the one who said I would definitely need a c/s because of my surgery last summer. At about 15 weeks I switched to a male doctor who disagrees with her analysis that I NEED a c/s. When I go to the hospital whichever of the 13 drs is there that night will deliver BP. Will they have a copy of my doctor's notes? Or will they just make judgments based on what is going on at that point? I meant to ask today and forgot.

Re: Question about practices with multiple doctors

  • I would think they would make judgments based on what is going on but they should read the notes to become familiar with the situation.

  • I would ask. Also make sure you have your OB put in your notes, you want to atempt at a vaginal birth.

  • My practice forwarded a copy of my chart to L&D when I reached 38 weeks so they would have it.  That being said, I still took a copy of my birth plan signed by my doctor with me to give to them when I checked in.  And they still took a history and asked me my preferences when I checked in to be sure they had their i's dotted and t's crossed.

  • 13 doctors?  That's nuts.  you can't even see them all before you deliver.

This.  My practice has 6 and we may not even get to all of them.

I have only seen 2. The lady dr and the guy I see now. If they weren't one of the better practices in ATL I would have switched. It is very overwhelming. My dr who did my surgery referred me out to them when I got pregnant. It is 13 drs and 6 midwives. It is ridiculous. I should add that they have 4 locations, so I think the drs practice out of different offices and then all deliver at the same hospital.
  • My doctor's office was a lot like that.  I had never met the woman who delivered Jack - I loved her, but never met her.

I'd be sure to discuss it ahead of time with your doctor to see what s/he recommends, and then bring a copy of your birth plan in your hospital bags just in case.

In my case, I had plenty of time between when I checked in and actual delivery to discuss my plans, but I realize not everyone has such a leisurely labor.
