Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

2nd+ time moms, how long could you keep pregnancy a secret?

I'm pregnant with DC#2 and we would really like to not tell anyone until about 4 months. Am I dreaming, or is this feasible? I showed around 12ish weeks last time, but I also put a lot of weight on with that pregnancy. I'm thinking if I eat healthier (I don't mean dieting), which I hope to regardless, do you think I can hold off telling our parents we see almost daily until at least 4 months? I carried really low last time, and I'm about 5'4" and 135 lbs.

  • Eh I don't know. I showed much earlier this time around. I had a very noticeable baby bump by 16 weeks. Close family members would have been able to tell earlier than that.

  • I really started showing at about 16 weeks. With that said, I'm overweight, and have some extra baggage that probably helped hide it longer.
  • This is so different for everyone. Strangers asked when I was due at 9 weeks. It was crazy. But my body may be very different than your body, so who knows?

Any reason you dont want to tell until 4 months?

  • I have no clue as how I'm going to keep it from people this next time around.  I figure between the fact that I work with my MIL, and I was throwing up twice a day starting at 6 weeks last time ... its going to be difficult.  Plus, most family/friends know that we're supposed to start trying sometime this Spring.  I'm pretty sure they're all holding their breath waiting for our announcement, lol.

I would really LIKE to get to 8 weeks and our doctor's appt, but we'll see.

  • Hmm, I'm not sure. People I don't see that often can't tell that I'm pregnant. But close family members? That I'm not so sure about. Definitely not my mother. She would notice very quickly, I'm sure.

  • We told at 4.5 weeks. We wanted to wait until after my 8 week appt but when we found out I wouldn't have an appt until 12 weeks, we figured we couldn't wait that long and told right away.

I'm 7.5 weeks now and feel like I'm starting to show already. No way I'd be able to hide it much longer.

  • I showed  much earlier this time.  I could have hidden it with #1 until 25-26 weeks.  Thtis time it was obvious by 18 weeks.

  • I'm 17 weeks tomorrow and if you don't know I am pg, you probably just think I ate a really big lunch. If I really wanted to still hide it I probably could. I'm pretty thin to start with, so the 6lbs I have gained so far just make people think I am getting fat. For those who do know I am pg, they think I have a cute little bump going.

  • This is ironic! My mom JUST hinted around on the phone w/ me and said my aunt was wondering if we had "any announcements." I'm only 8 weeks! I think people at work are suspicious as well. I'm planning to tell my boss next week--I don't think I can hide it any longer. I'm 5'6" and about 130 pounds normally. For whatever reason, I looked pregnant really early with my first baby and the same thing is happening with this one. I can't wear some of my normal clothes. So, there is NO WAY I could hide it for 14 weeks. :)

  • I carried exactly the same way with both pregnancies right up until around 20wks.  I don't know if I would have been able to conceal it that long either time though.  It would be easier in the winter when you are more likely to wear baggier clothes, harder in the summer.
  • What's the need to hide it that long?

  • I started showing at 9 weeks this time. I couldn't have hidden it.  Well, and the zofran pump attached to me kind of gives it away...

  • We didn't tell anyone until 15ish weeks.

  • I told today! I'm too uncomfortable to keep up with the regular jeans and its time to switch.  If I was desperate enough i could continue to hide it by going up a jean size, but it seemed silly to buy MAYBE another 3 weeks.  My mom has been telling me for 2 weeks that I'm not fooling anyone, but my boss was totally suprised when I told her today. but...we arent that close.
  • With my first pregnacy I had some trouble in the beginning, the docs thought I was having a miscarriage, and we had told our immediately families really early who (in my opinion) were extremely insensitive about it and my MIL especially, was telling every John, ***, and Harry about every intimate detail of it that I had shared with her. Then, we had DS#1 at 33 weeks.

This time, I figured it would be better to just wait as long as possible to tell them once we're in a safer spot with the baby, just in case.

Did your Dh talk to his mom about her blabber mouth?

No, but I did about a month ago when she was blabbing on about something else personal. And she went off the deep end, saying how insulting it was, and how she's not a blabbermouth, etc. But there is so much more to the long story. To make it short, she has stage 4b ovarian cancer and her days are pretty limited, so I decided not to make a big deal out of it with her, it's just not worth it. We'll keep it a secret until we feel safe telling everyone, or if his mom takes a turn for the worse, so he'll have a chance to tell her.

  • I'm about 17 weeks and if I didn't tell you I was pregnant, you wouldn't know.  I don't have a bump, I just look slightly thicker around the middle.  I started showing with my DD around 24 weeks or so and, although I think I'll pop before that this time, we were able to keep things a secret as long as we wanted to.  (I am about 5'7"/125 pp)  We told at just under 14 weeks.

Everyone's body is different though.  Good luck!
