Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Cereal questions?

Is your LO eating it yet?  What age did you start?  Do you find that it helps them STTN better at all? I know there is no miracle answer in getting your LOs to STTN, but DD is up 2-3 times and night and I am wondering if cereal could help.  My ped said to do it, but I just wanted to see what you guys thought about the topic.  Thanks!

Re: Cereal questions?

  • I dont think that cereal has any effect on a baby sttn. We just started giving cereal 3 days ago (LO will be 6 months this wkend).

  • We started rice cereal at 3 months because he was eating so much formula and BM.  It helped him to sleep longer through the night.  Now it is a whole different story, he is up 1-2 times per night....we are working on that.

  • We started cereal about 3 weeks ago and fruit purees last week.  Our pedi said it's a myth that cereal/solids helps with STTN since at this age LO's primary source of nutrition should be either breast milk or formula and solids before 8-9 months are just to teach them how to swallow, use a spoon and experience new flavors and textures.
  • U can flame all u want...but we had our DD on cereal out the bottle at month old...she is a eater...we would put her down between 11 and 12 and she would sleep til 5...when she was around 2 months she started sleeping from 10 til 7am...so yes i believe u have something to stick to the ribs they sleep...i even put the stage 1 baby food in there to help with constipation...she will look at u crazy u try a bottle with no cereal. she only eats 5, 6oz bottles a day with cereal and or fruit.
